It is unfortunate we have been caught in the middle of all these coaching changes and unfortunately Dillon's recruiter has been let go. He did say he left a note on Beamer's desk before he left about Dillon. Dillon would take a preferred walk-on and we did send his kickoff tape with Newsome. Newsome said he and Beamer watched it together and that it was very good. We know he is a low priority at tech but I can tell you he would fight to win that position. You can't teach leg strength and Dillon has it. Regardless we are still doing our due dilligence with the other schools that are actively recruiting Dillon. We still have hope, and we know it's a numbers game so we will just see how it all plays out in the next three weeks. Thanks for all the support on this site!!

Does Coach Beamer know that he would accept a preferred walk-on without a scholarship and work to earn the job and the scholarship? Kickers that drop 50+ yd FGs aren't falling out of trees in Virginia, Journell is gone after next season, our kickoffs were less than impressive this past season ... Sounds like a no-brainer to me

If we lose this guy, I don't even know what to say about this. How could the ball be dropped on paperwork by anyone? How could VT let someone or some school drop the ball? I realize it's not VT's fault and that deadlines are deadlines .. but wow

VT bent over backwards for this. If he and his dad blame it on Virginia Tech and choose to go elsewhere because of it...well, not sure if it was a good fit to begin with

I don't know if he (Beamer) knows or not. We have only talked to Newsome and up until a week ago we were told Dillon would have an official visit Jan 25th or the following weekend, then all the coaching chaos (for lack of a better word) and everything changed. Up until a week ago, we were told he would have an offer of a preferred walk-on. Honestly, I won't believe anything until Dillon hears it from Beamer himself. This whole recruiting process has been an education in itself. It's a business and I can see so much more clearly now. All I can say is Dillon is very disappointed.

We have only talked to Newsome and up until a week ago we were told Dillon would have an official visit Jan 25th or the following weekend, then all the coaching chaos (for lack of a better word) and everything changed. Up until a week ago, we were told he would have an offer of a preferred walk-on. Honestly, I won't believe anything until Dillon hears it from Beamer himself. This whole recruiting process has been an education in itself. It's a business and I can see so much more clearly now. All I can say is Dillon is very disappointed.

The reality is that if the coaches of a college program have any sense they're going to only have 1 kicker and 1 punter on scholarship. Any more than that is a waste because those 2 positions are at such a low injury risk compared to the rest of the positions where you absolutely have to have at the very least a dependable 2 deep rotation

What's your point? Pretty sure we currently have 0 place kickers (and 1 punter) on scholarship. Journell lost his scholy and I don't think it was ever reinstated. A preferred walk-on offer is not a scholarship unless you win the job, so that just takes us back to 1 and 1 like you said with whoever wins the job.

Thank you so much. I believe that things will turn out however there are meant to happen. I believe the path for Dillon is being meticulously orchestrated and the timing will be perfect. We will be patient and wait.
