i see the same in jimmy, and believe he is going to be a probowler the pats will look back on with regret.

jacoby can play. parcells was adamant belichick draft him, and parcells knows QB's. he chose bledsoe over mirer, and found tony romo. he was high on prescott.
if bill says the kid can play, he can play.

Brissett has a cannon arm, runs just as well as the Galloping Chicken and is listed as a bit bigger ..... though he looks huge compared to Jimmy.

BTW, glad to see that you finally finished the tunnel and you're back to runnin wild :suds:

I said no but really would not be shocked if someone does. Bad QBs get taken too high, others get monster contracts based on small sample sizes. Teams are desperate so I would not be shocked.

Sad thing is Jimmy G is a very good prospect/QB. he has a faster release then even brady and he is fearless too. Guys like Mazz want to keep him, and for good reason.

the question is ....is Jacoby really a good prospect to replace Brady in 3 years?
Mazz also said he wouldn't trade him for the number 1 overall pick. His logic is flawed anyway. He said if the Patriots think they have the next guy, they should keep him, so if they trade him it's a mistake. But if they trade him, it's very possible they did so because they don't think they have the next guy.

I think a real question has to be how will Belichick make decisions as he nears retirement? The Pats have always planned for the future, 5-10 years down the road. But if Belichick is thinking he's going to retire in 5 years or so, does he change his philosophy as the GM by going for more now and sacrificing the future? And will that create some friction between Kraft and Belichick?

It all depends on what Brady does with his contract. If NE doesn't trade him they 1. Will lose him next season to FA. 2. Tag him next season? Again depends on Brady. No team can sustain two starting QB salaries.
If I get to make the call, get the most you can for Jimmy G. Get Brissett more reps. Draft another QB this year.
Two early picks this year (even though BB probably trades one or both) could surely cement NE for another SB run.
In BB we trust.

I think this is the path you have to take if you believe Tom is going to keep playing beyond 2017.

Funny thought from NESN:
I think it would be really funny and fitting if the Patriots receive a first- and fourth-round pick for Garoppolo. Because that would mean Brady’s four-game suspension actually allowed them to recoup their Deflategate punishment.

I would say some depends on what the offer is they get. 1st round pick and you know that Brady is planning on playing a few more years then yeah hard not to pull the trigger knowing you are losing him. If they only get a 2nd round pick out of the deal it might just be worth keeping him since you know good chance you get a 3rd round comp pick for him the next season anyway plus maybe a QB goes down during training camp and a team gets desperate and throws even more into a trade for him. Or maybe just one more Super Bowl win is enough for Brady and he decides to retire after next season if they can win it. I know that is a huge risk to hope you can go win another with so few repeats in NFL history but then you at least have your next guy in place.

Some also depends on how they feel about Brissett. If they like his potential then no reason to keep Jimmy G around.

Do the Patriots get at least a first round pick for Jimmy? It's a QB poor draft in a league that's desperate for QB talent. Does someone hand over at least a first round pick for the former 2nd rounder?

Shit look at the haul gotten for Sam Bradford...

Who are you?

The Browns with 12 are the only ones I can see parting with a 1st rounder but considering the Browns analytical driven front office that places huge value on draft picks I don't see it as a strong chance.

The Browns, 9ers, and Bears know the Patriots don't have a ton of leverage in all of this so all 3 will look to build a package around their 2nd round pick which is high enough in the round where it's close enough to a 1st rounder to likely make the Patriots happy.

All that talk of them keeping Jimmy G is just leverage talk by the Pats. They aren't going to pay two QBs starter money and Jimmy G isn't going to want to wait around for when Brady feels like retiring. So they have to trade him or they risk not getting anything at all for him.

And let's face it the Pats already had this scenario in mind when they drafted Jimmy G in the first place. They got him because they might be in a situation where they needed to replace Brady or if they didn't they could flip him for draft picks. Their 62 pick investment is likely going to net them a top 2nd rounder and another high future pick so no matter who they trade too the Pats already won as their investment paid great dividends to them.

I'm guessing he'll go for a 2nd and a 2nd next year.

Todays news is he is looking for a contract through 21/21 season. He claims he can play till he is 45.

Jimmy G has to be on the trade blocks

And when they drafted Jimmy, a lot of people forget that Tom looked like he could be on the decline. 2013 was the only year in his career that he was outside the top 10 in passer rating. He threw just 25 TDs and 11 INTs and was sacked 40 times, more than any year of his career except his first season. They definitely were thinking Jimmy would replace him before his rookie contract was up.

Whatever happens, NE will get a hell of a lot more for Garoppolo than Dallas is going to get for Romo, sellers market or not.

This is a good break down of both sides. I agree a lot with this.
