There is one huge difference between TD and all of those guys. TD adds to his resume the greatest playoff RB of all time. When the games mattered most there has never been a better RB in NFL history. So yes while those other guys like Alexander, Craig, and Lewis have longevity to add some nice stats to their resume over that of TD they do not have the playoff success.
TD gets in imo because Elway is important and historically TD is an essential part of Elways narrative.

So would you kick out guys like Gale Sayers, Bo Jackson, Sterling Sharpe, Tony Boselli, and Kenny Easley? All had shortened careers because of injuries.

Bo isn't in nor should he be. As for the others I have no problem with inducting guys with great but jury shortened careers and the rest are fine candidates for that exception, as is TD.

Absolutely no way Pearson belongs in the hall.

I don't think Irving Fryar belongs in either, it's not the hall of playing a long time.

TO is an ass hole but he deserves to be in before any of the receivers you mentioned.

Just my opinions...

Gotta agree with this.

Football is a team game so saying he only got in bc of his teammates is just dumb IMO. Everyone gets help but saying he got in bc of his overrated QB is idiotic. The reason why the Broncos had great playoff runs was bc of their defense, o-line was pretty good and TD.

You have to admit that he wasn't great for very long, though. Its not called Hall of Flash in the Pan. TD is famous because he won big games with Elway. Warner is famous because he went with 2 different teams in 3 of the most memorable Super Bowls.

Its definitely not a career achievment. Its a peak achievment.

While I agree that T.D. and Warner got voted in largely based on big performances in big games, it is not uncommon in all pro sports. Sometimes there are guys like Davis who were just so dominant even in that small window that you can't deny their greatness. Especially at RB where careers are relatively short anyway. Honestly, if not for Terrell Davis, does Elway and the Broncos just have a couple more SB blow-outs on their resume? I'm not sure if they even get to those 2 SB's, let alone win both.I don't know if there's an easy cut and dried answer to this. Everybody will have their own criteria for the HOF.

The flipside to that is: do the Broncos win Super Bowls with Elway and a good RB? Does Mike Anderson (OROY) do enough to win if he was in there instead of TD? Clinton Portis (2x Pro Bowl)?

Do the Rams win a Super Bowl(s) with Trent Green (2x Pro Bowls in KC) or Marc Bulger (2x Pro Bowls after Warner left)?

Very good point. No way to know, is there. I have huge doubts about the Rams with either Green or Bulger, though. Those guys were very over-rated, imo. Pro bowls are one thing. MVP's are another.

Its hard to say. The conventional wisdom at the time was that Faulk was always the MVP to the Greatest Show on Turf. Getting through the Bucs and Titans were things that need a bit of timely play, though. Any QB probably could've beaten the Packers in 2001 but the Patriots...well, Warner threw that pick 6 to Ty Law so its not hard to envision Green or Bulger doing any better or worse.

Another conventional wisdom was that Denver had one heck of a Zone Blocking System that could turn any running back into a star. I think there was a point in time in Fantasy Football where they were projecting absolute nobodies as 2nd round steals just because they played for Denver.

Pro Football HOF is not very prestigious.

This is just another example.

I'd say the QB position is the most skilled and difficult, he should be in the HOF, even if not, at least before Davis, serious?

Davis has been waiting a lot longer than Warner, and while TD's peak was short lived, during that time, he was the best running back in the NFL, and was an absolute monster in the playoffs.

And with Gale Sayers being in, it sets the precedent for TD to make it.

He's deserving, and I'm glad he made it.

Great Denver Bronco and a great Georgia Bulldog.

No doubt Marshall Faulk was a huge key to that teams success. I think Warner was just as deserving of the MVP's though and he just had such a great quick release and sense of timing and he never seemed to get rattled or nervous. Like I said, everybody will have their own criteria and perspective on this. I understand the pick 6 vs. the Pats going against him. I think the pick 6 by James Harrison is mostly irrelevant though. Warner came back in the second half and 4th qtr of that game and had one of the best performances ever in a SB. Not his fault, the Cards defense was as pathetic as it was.
I just don't think it's such a bad thing for these guys to get in. People far too often say you can put anybody in a certain situation and succeed but I don't buy that. The individual player still has to take advantage of that and be great. I still see people to this day dismiss Tom Brady because a couple of guys had success when he didn't play. I don't buy that either. He is a first ballot no-brainer. Anybody that says otherwise is simply hating for the sake of hate.

I think its one of the biggest plays in NFL history if not the biggest. Its so very improbable and completely changed the game.

Its not really Warner's fault entirely. Its a play he successfully used in the past and Harrison was watching film and knew it was coming and actually left his responsibility. The opposite kind of genius that you see on the Patriots. You would also assume that someone would've tackled Harrison but they didn't.

Its just all small sample sizes, though.

Here's where I just disagree is all. It was a huge play at the time but Arizona had the game won in the 4th qtr with the play of Warner and Fitz. I give the Steelers credit for marching down the field and that catch by Holmes was amazing but that Cardinals defense was all-time SB bad.
AS for biggest play in SB history, I would never put a first half play in there and there are a bunch of plays bigger, imo. The Butler int in the end zone just 2 years ago, the David Tyree catch, that catch by Holmes in that Cards/Steelers game, the Titans coming up just 2 yards short on the last play of the game, Adam Viniteri's game winner or of course, the infamous "wide right" call (sorry to Scott Norwood), hell, maybe even the on-side kick by the Saints to start the second half that basically left the Colts in shock. Well, maybe not that one. Peyton did throw the late pic
At any rate, cheers man. It's been a good debate. I'm heading off for a while.

Personally, yeah. Longevity matters to me. HOF is the highest honor imo and you gotta check all the boxes to get in. If you miss one, you're not getting in if I were a voter

Man, slightly off-topic, but it's crazy to think how different the NFL and MLB HOF's are.

I think the baseball hall of fame gets it right because it requires that someone was truly one of the best of the best, and not just that someone was a star player who had some memorable postseason games.

For the too short of career crowd:

Player A: 68 games, 6263 rushing yards, 1307 receiving yards, 39 total touchdowns.

Player B: 86 games, 8747 rushing yards, 1411 receiving yards, 60 total touchdowns.

Player A: never won a championship, never MVP, in the hall of fame.

Player B: won 2 championships, one MVP and Super Bowl MVP, just voted in.

Player B is Terrell Davis
Player A is Gale Sayers
