Can anyone explain how they are ranking Boston College anything other than last? They've played 3 conference games, and have scored a total of 24 points.

My best guess is that their defense is good enough to at least be respected. Even with blowouts to VT and Clemson, their total defense is still ranked 6th. I think reputation plays a large role here, as BC is often a defense-dominant team, at least under Addazio...

I honestly think what happened in the Tennessee game was a fluke on your end and a combination of Tennessee being a second half team. Time will tell though, but I think you guys are better than most people want to give credit for

stage was too big i think. they took a self inflicted punch to the mouth and just lost faith. Everyone on the sidelines said after that first fumble and tennessee scoring on the short field it sucked the energy out of the entire team who was on cloud 9 before that. I don't think VT will ever be one of those "elite" teams like a Clemson or Louisville this year because of that. Got to get used to playing on that kind of stage and having the cahonies to put shit like that behind you when it inevitably happens. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it is damn sure going up fast right now in hokie land. I said preseason an 8-4 season would make me content and a 9-3 season would have me extremely excited for the future. They have a chance to blow that out of the water.

Cam is an expert on stage freight so this is an expert opinion.

You're right. I don't know what Fuente did there, but they look like a completely different team from the Beamer Era, where EVERY game and EVERY opponent, no matter how good or bad, has a chance to beat the Hokies. I believe one of the reasons Bud looked so stressed out was that he knew he had to prop up the offense every single game. Frustrated Hokie fans blamed Stiney, natch, but this was Beamer's philosophy.

Fuente's philosophy is to drive nails into the coffin quickly then get backups plenty of snaps. I simply am not able to easily adapt to this wonderful transition, but it certainly appears Bud has. With large leads, Foster now can call defensive plays with reckless abandon, trying out multiple options he wouldn't dare use before for fear of giving up a long TD and either losing the leads or get further out of reach from winning. When Fuente told Bud, "You no longer have to be perfect every drive," Bud responded, "You don't know me." Well, perhaps Bud didn't know Fuente, either. They both know each other now, and for Hokie fans, it appears to be a match made in heaven...

We just took care of Florida state two weeks ago and you've already forgotten? We were a roughing the kicker away from running away with the game. Florida State couldn't get a stop defensively almost the entire game. We had control for most game, missed more opportunities and still wasn't even in doubt until we screwed ourselves with a penalty that put them back in the game. Florida State isn't better than North Carolina.

Nothing to do with UVA. I just listed them the way my computer has them on what they have done to this point this year. Honestly if I did it on what my eyes have seen so far it would be Clemson- Louisville-Miami- Va Tech-FSU

You need to fix your computer then...

VT clown-stomped the team that barely beat NC State... And VT has beaten a ranked opponent which neither NCST or WF have done. Oh and lets not forget... VT is actually ranked. In short... your computer what not sucks.

It is a pretty good formula come November, but yes it sucks before them. Gives too much credit to W/L record early on.

There's always a few bugs in the system. On the CFRC, one computer site has VT at 39th. Another has them at 36th. The best one has them at 5th...

Fuente had to change the mentality of this team and he has done it thus far in a remarkably small amount of time. He just has to keep that foot down now. They actually believe they can win these games now and not just compete like in the recent Beamer years. The flip side to that is keeping their heads in the game and not pulling one of those "the brightest stars burn out twice as fast" moments. You can't let up after a good win. You have to go into games like this week @ Syracuse wanting it just as bad as you did UNC or Miami or w/e.

Mine has them at 25 right now. Are they the 25th best team in the country right now? No. I would say they are between 10-15, with the Miami game in two weeks telling us a lot more of where they deserve to be.

Yup, and as excited as I was at their beatdown of UNC in Chapel Hill, I also realize that the conditions played perfectly to their strengths at the expense of UNC. Defense and a dual-threat QB has a huge advantage...

Three shanked kicks by the FSU kicker, FSU out gained them in total yards, and FSU had 120 penalty yards.

No doubt UNC won the game and thats all that matters, but FSU mostly beat themselves.
