KD's doing it bigger and better (possibly) than LeBron, so some people can't handle that.
I don't think Durant was sneaky though. Lebron clearly gave Riley a heads up the year before. That's why Miami dumped salaries and made room for three big contracts. Durant is a class act and I hope he wins as long as the Lakers can't win

Lebron James is considered one of the greatest of all time and left for rings. The media eats it up, the fans eat it up and its the new normal. The Warriors had a ton of media coverage last year for being one of the greatest teams ever.

Nobody turns that down.

I don't blame KD. I would've done the same thing. No reason not to.

That said, the Warriors are now bigger than the NBA. They are the Uconn women's team. Lots of people will say that this is good for the NBA but for the people who actually follow the other teams, this is going to be pretty tough to swallow.

Draymond Green's sales pitch:

We asked him how many championships do you think we can win with the way the team is now? How many championships can you win without us? How many do you think we can win together?

We told him he didn't have to change who he is. He doesn't have to change how he plays. We will get him shots. If he shot 40 percent from 3-point line contested, how would he shoot wide open?

This is just great for the NBA. The Heats team doesn't even compare to this team in terms of hype. Every GSW game is now must see, every road arena they go it too will be jammed packed. GSW were a ratings dream last year, and this will only make them much more appealing. If you love how the game is actually played(ball movement, unselfishness etc) this will be absolutely incredible.

I for one can't wait to watch this.

According to a person who saw the text messages, Curry told Durant in a text message that he could care less about who is the face of the franchise, who gets the most recognition or who sells the most shoes (Curry is with Under Armor, Durant with Nike).

The two-time NBA MVP also told Durant that if Durant won the MVP award again he would be in the front row of the press conference clapping for him. In closing, Curry's message to Durant was that all he truly cared about was winning championships and he'd like to do that as his teammate.

As someone who doesn't have an NBA team, I love it. I'd imagine 90% of the hardcore fans are going to hate this.

But it opens up the league to casuals for the next 2-5 years.

And now the Warriors have someone that refs will actually call fouls for. It's gonna be incredible.

As someone who has rooted for KD to have success in the NBA since his performance in Allen, I am kind of happy he'll get some rings. Can't say I have more than a transient NBA fandom (we get Pacers games out here, but I generally prefer OKC to them or say the Nuggets) but yikes, the regular season is going to be tough to enjoy for me, personally.

Someone said something about KD staying in OKC, might have become the next Karl Malone...that's kind of been rolling around in my head (unobstructed, some might say :dhd:)

Dont know if that would have ended up true, but if Durant thought about that, it might be enough to scare him into moving to a team where he can get a ring-now.

I'm a hardcore NBA fan and huge Sixers fan and I love this. Granted the Sixers have no shot at winning a title, but it really speaks volumes as to how you can build a winning team in the draft/trades then become a destination for the best free agent in the league. This is good for the league. Gone are the days of wanting to go to LA or NYC just because of Market. I mean who would have thought 5 years ago that GSW are a destination landing spot. Just crazy. They were a complete non factor for about 20 years straight.

And the other two super elite teams (SAS and CLE) are nowhere close to the size of an LA or NYC market.

I think its a very hard sell to say its good for the league. The Milwaukee Bucks and their brand new stadium? The OKC Thunder and their imploding team? The Spurs window closing. Dallas left looking like a 2nd rate destination. Memphis going all in on a team with 0% chance of winning a Finals.

Here is whats wrong: League Max contracts. Durant is worth like 5 or 6 Harrison Barnes or Mike Conleys.

He's young (turning 28 this September), but before he knows it, he'll be in his mid-30s. There's no time like the present.

Yeah, I've read that argument that LeBron, Durant and others should get their true market value. There will be a lot of resistance to that from the majority of NBA players. All these mediocre players are really cashing in and they will not want to see a few superstars get 60 million/year contracts. Also, the NBA has survived just fine when there were previous dynasties (Lakers in the previous decade, Spurs arguably now, the Bulls in the '90s, the Lakers in the '80s).
