McGregor today tweeted that he is retiring.

Anyone actually believe this? There is no way in hell he is retiring.

I doubt he retires. I think he'll have a losing streak first. He's really just beginning.

He is still scheduled for a rematch with Diaz at UFC 200.

This has to be just a "look at me" moment. He is apt to have those from time to time...

UFC announced the following on their website concerning Conor McGregor's announcement that he was retiring:

UFC President Dana White announced Tuesday that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been pulled from his UFC 200 main event against Nate Diaz on July 9.

White revealed that the decision was made by the promotion after McGregor informed UFC officials that he would not participate in any promotional activities, including a commercial shoot and press conferences.

The UFC is currently working on a new main event for the card, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Other bouts currently set for the event include two title fights, with Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar battling for the interim featherweight title, and Miesha Tate defending her UFC women's bantamweight crown against Amanda Nunes.

He's done.

I think Mcgregor is embarrassed and angry that he wont be on the card for UFC 200. He is used to getting his way with the UFC & it didn't happen this time. He brought the problem on himself. Every other UFC fighter will be doing the promotional activities for UFC 200. McGregor will probably be back because he's still under contract with the UFC. He will cost himself millions by retiring. He was most likely going to lose again to Diaz. Diaz will be getting another fight.

Apparently, McGregor was at the Carvalho fight last week, so maybe that shook him deeply.

Or maybe he is jackass who just thinks he is bigger than the UFC after just 1 year at the top.

It's one of these three scenarios:

-He's injured.
-He pissed hot.
-He is genuinely effected by that fighter's death. The dead guy was fighting one of his SBG teammates.

I am leaning towards the first scenario, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the second.

And make no mistake, whatever the troll job is, the UFC is right there with him trying to cover it up.

He didn't want to fly to Vegas next week to make a commercial promoting UFC 200 and Dana did what he did with Nick Diaz when he didn't show up to help promote his GSP fight. He took Mac off the card, Mac got pissed and is being a diva.

Complete cover up. The UFC is selling Wolf Tickets.

Possibly:noidea:

They tried hard to cover for Bones but that fucking idiot just kept fucking up enough that it was impossible for the UFC to keep up the cover.

I hate the premeditated drama that McGregor creates any moment he can. This is likely just more of his same diva shit or like you said, a cover-up.

This is pretty bizarre. Mr. Promotion himself all of a sudden decides that he won't promote the biggest event in the history of the UFC? There is a lot of speculation that will be done, and I've done my fair share so far as the story has developed, (started thinking it was Conor playing with phrasing, not saying HOW young he would retire and just trying to show the UFC how much of a stir he could make and use it as a bargaining chip. Also heard he had another ACL.

The conspiracy theory would be that he either failed a test that they are covering up, or that he knows he will pee hot if he comes to Vegas and USADA hits him up) but it'll be interesting to see how this all develops. Expect a triumphant return from Conor next year with the biggest UFC media blitz of all time.

I think its just a ploy on his part to get a bigger chunk of "cheese" from the UFC. He's not stupid. He'll wait it out a bit until he gets something he likes from UFC and he'll be back.

Just playing the conspiracy card and :trash:

Came across this tidbit a hour ago

Conor McGregor announced his UFC retirement, there was a buzz on social media and on the internet that McGregor could be on his way to WWE since he recently started following Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Shane McMahon on Twitter. Some reports even claimed McGregor started following the WWE stars after his retirement Tweet.

To clarify, McGregor began following the WWE stars during WrestleMania 32 week, so while McGregor’s WWE status is unknown at the time, and he very well might have an interest in the company and/or pro wrestling, he did not begin following the WWE stars today or within the past day or two.

Either way, its about a payday. I've seen enough of him to know the kind of lifestyle he enjoys now. Retirement ain't paying for that kind of living

This is where I'm leaning. Dana told him to do the promos, McGregor said no (he's probably still salty about the blowback he got from doing Conan & the like prior to 196 so he's "focusing" on his training now), so Dana gave him an ultimatum and Conor took his ball and went home.

This.
He called Dana's bluff, Dana's not bluffing.
Dana would lose too many fighters if he caves to Conor here.
