Redskins and QB Kirk Cousins have broken off contract talks, per team source. No further talks scheduled.

Big deal - this type of stuff happens all of the time. The agent & GM are talking a hardline stance. They still have lots of time to work this out or apply the franchise tag. This is not the end of this by any stretch. Good job hanging off any tidbits that ESPN feeds you.

NFL contracts go this way all the time. Last year with D. Thomas for the Broncos they negotiated with him once and turned down the contract. The team and his agent didn't talk for months. The day the Franchise Tag was due was the first time they had spoke since the first conversation and they got a contract done in a matter of a few hours. Amazing what a deadline will do to cause both sides to finally sit down and give a little.

No way the Skins will let Cousins walk. He'll probably get a 5 year $80M contract or something (cause it's the Skins) and potentially re-negotiate down the road. He played quite impressively last year.

Skins/Cousins-Agent probably had a meeting, put items on the table. Skins said, "great thanks." Cousins-agent said, "great thanks." and have shelved contract discussion until things become relevant once we approach draft and get into free agency a bit more.

Schefter is such a dramatic fool, but he's not as bad as all you guys that take his word as gospel.

This just in the Cowboys are in negotiatins with Ray Lewis and Ray Rice. Since niether are under contract Jerrah is trying to get a jump on the rest of the league. He was rumored to say they are leaders and role models.

LOL that anyone would start a thread about this. It's a negotiation, this is how they start. What happens in February means nothing. Only an idiot or a Boys fan, or in this case both, would not understand this.

Dicky comment...Want to compare Redskin versus Cowboy comments on the Hoop? See the Skins on the Cowboy board and Cowboy fans on Skins board and tell me which group is worse...

Why? He is just reporting what he heard. He is doing his job of getting clicks and not like what he is reporting is false. This kind of thing happens all the time. People jumped to conclusions from the tweet. Yes I'm sure he knew that would happen but not like he is not supposed to do his job of reporting what he hears and verifies.

It may not be false but it lacks context. It's why Twitter is a ridiculous medium for gathering information.

I don't know how any of you can watch ESPN unless there is an actual game on.

If someone's job is to be a dramatic fool, they're still acting as a dramatic fool. Schefter, Kardashian, whoever.

When Kirk and the skins come back to talks schefter's "broken off talks" will have been wrong.

And now you've got me talking about this guy more than he's worth.

Never do. That's the great thing about not having cable anymore. No stupid habits like turning on espn in the background and hearing their dramatic drivel.

Ok? Are they talking right now? From what I understand no. This happens all the time in the league. The Broncos and D. Thomas last year after making an early offer didn't talk for months. They finally got together on the very last day before talks had to stop and hammered out a deal in a matter of a few hours. Both sides were playing chicken to see if the other side would come down price wise as the deal got closer to the deadline. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if both sides are doing that in this situation.

Apparently Kirk "doesn't like that". :heh:

But seriously, this is how most big contract negotiations go. Rarely does it go smoothly. It would only "appear" smooth if nothing was reported by the media circus, but you can pretty much guarantee that these stalemates always happen. At least this early in the offseason!

Makes sense... He's due to become a free agent, and probably wants a good view of his value. Redskins don't want to overpay right out the gate or use the franchise tag unless they have to.
