Does anybody have any experience with rice cookers or pressure cookers?

An Asian friend of mine has told me to stay away from the cheaper rice cookers because they tend to burn the rice. At the price point of a nicer rice cooker there are multi-functional pressure cookers at around the same price which seems like more bang for my buck.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

On the stove. It takes about 25-30 minutes and a bit of a watchful eye.

I've had rice from a rice cooker before and it definitely comes out fluffier and better than I can make it on the stove.

Mostly brown but I'll have wild and white almost as often. I try to keep it from being too monotonous.

honestly, and this is just my opinion, i was gonna buy a rice cooker too........but, it was easier just to switch to buying quick cook rice, as i eat mainly, brown and white........that was why i asked what are you eating and how are you cooking it now......boil 3/4 cup water, put rice in , steam for 5 min whole process takes about 7 min..........not worth buying a cooker for IMHO

The point of a rice cooker is consistently making better tasting, fluffy rice that you would be proud to serve your most important guests. There's also the convenience factor: once you've set the machine, you can go about chopping, cleaning and cooking the rest of the meal. There's no need to worry that it's going to boil over or burn or even go cold. All the models we tested have automatic "keep warm" functions that kick in after the cooking is done and will last for several hours.

The final reason to use an electric rice cooker boils down to two words: brown rice. No matter how adept you are (or think you are) at making white rice on the stove top, brown rice is a different matter. It usually ends up under or overcooked in a pot. Fuzzy logic cookers, whose microprocessors really come into their own with difficult brown rice, get it right every time. No crunchy kernels or mushy brown clumps

Is it possible to have one be able to aptly do wild rice for under $100? The Zojirushi ones look to be starting at around $120-$130ish.

My wife bought a rice cooker at Walmart (don't remember the brand). It comes with a measuring cup. Put the measured cup of rice (White, brown, Jasmine, whatever) add water to line in the cooker. Put the cover on it, turn it on and there's a red light. When the light switches to green.......it's done. Perfect, fluffy rice every time. Even I can do it. $19.97 about 4 years ago.

I know they do have a few different models.
Imagine if you want to cook multiple types perfectly, you might have to spring for the more expensive ones.

This one is what I use. Think I paid $189

That!

Put as much rice as you want in after a "pre-wash", fill with clean cold water up to one knuckle above the tip of your index finger at the top of your desired rice level (1 inch above rice line), flip one button-n-done.

Who needs all that digital software nonsense?

A rice cooker is a more essential kitchen appliance than a toaster or anything else besides the major built in one's. At least in my opinion.
