Clausen was god freaking awful in Carolina, but he's like the 4th guy on our QB depth chart right now. A pretty big outside shot at beating out both Fales and Palmer. Not impossible though.

Lol, well he did have a solid college career. Bad in Carolina but who knows, maybe he'll be half way competent in the back up role.

And I really don't see why anyone would mind it. Just a guy to compete with Palmer.

Fales likely headed to the practice squad as a rookie. Trestman has a relationship with Clausen, and probably liked the upside he had at ND. Figured it was worth a look in camp.

Just think he's another QB arm for camp, that T-man is familiar with.
Palmer obviously picked up the system in a weeks time last yr. Albeit vs 3rd stingers.
I really thought Palmer would beat out Josh last yr., on his showing in the 1 game he played.
I doubt Clausen beats out Fales for the 3rd spot. Just think it would be challenge to T-man to develop a guy.
But competition brings out the best in everyone .

Well, he does have a heads up on knowing the offense. However, I dont think that really distances him from the others. He has 15 career reps. Fales is "Rookie green", but IMO- is at worst PS bound.
Clausen is the most "seasoned" in terms of playing time. His chances for making the team cant be completely discounted.

The problem with putting Fales on the Practice Squad is that any team can sign him to the active roster and the Bears lose him. For this reason I believe that he makes the full roster as the #3.

That would make me think that the battle might be between Palmer and Clausen for the #2. (unless Fales is that good in Camp/preseason- which is doubtful)

I'm thinking that the Clausen signing is just a "look see" for OTA's and possibly camp. He's coming off an injury and hasn't played in 2 or 3 years.

Im not convinced they will keep 3 Qbs on the active roster. If Fales really impresses during camp/preseason why cant he be the backup? Palmer has the advantage of knowing the offense a little better at this time. He only has 15 career reps. Fales can make that up during camp/preseason. If they truly covet him but just isnt quite ready for some reason, perhaps they will keep 3 qbs since being on the PS makes him free game to any active roster. I just have my doubts it will come to that.
