That was a lot more encouraging than Kobe's live interview yesterday on ESPN.

I couldn't tell if Kobe was more doubtful or tempered in his responses. It was one or the other.

From those tweets, I'm going with tempered.

I'm thinking 25-35 minutes but maybe you guys have different numbers or margins.

Here's another encouraging one...


I think he'll average right around 30 mpg. At his age, his body certainly can't recover as quickly as before. I don't think 30 mpg is a huge workload though. Conditioning-wise, he should be able handle that.

I think you're about right on that. I think Scott will probably play him fewer minutes initially and then adjust things depending on how the season goes.

I think we'll probably see him averaging closer to 25 minutes or so early on and then after the All-Star break, if the Lakers are in playoff contention or close to it, his minutes will increase to around 35 minutes per game.

Scott has already mentioned that he wants to keep him as fresh as possible for a potential playoff run.

Some interesting comments re: the upcoming season from an article this morning:

First year Lakers coach Byron Scott has consistently said that he and Bryant will work together to keep his minutes lower to preserve him for later in the season and a potential postseason run. The initial conversation about minutes has not yet been had, Scott said. "I expect him to play 82 games and play well", Scott said. "He's a guy who's still going to average 23-24 points per game. The biggest thing is for him to stay healthy and keeping his minutes to a minimum where he can play those 82 games".

Steve Nash on his back and his ability to play this season:

"There's no guarantees that I get to play any games this year," he said. "The truth is I have a lot of miles on my back, and a day or two into training camp it could all be done." That's not necessarily the expectation, course. Nash said he was able to return to more typical off-season rituals, and that he felt significantly better than last season. "I felt pretty good all summer this year," he said, whereas last summer I was fighting all summer just to get back on the court."

Nash also sound like he knows this season is it for him:

"I'm just trying to enjoy every moment," he said, "Every day keep building, do what I can to give myself a chance and with a little bit of luck I'll get to play a ton this year and have a great close to my career."

I'd say Kobe will be good for around 30 min per game. That number could go up or down depending how close the game is in the end.

I have plenty of confidence in seeing 'Daddy Swag' and Clarkson filling his spot so he can get plenty of rest.

Well, if you want to be honest, D'Antoni's practice atmosphere is more suitable for in season than Scott's has been in the past. What Scott is doing now is fine for training camp and welcomed. But he has to tone it down during the season because 82 games is too much of a grind. One of the knocks on him as a coach is he's had a habit of burning his players out mid-season with his practice style. So get them conditioned now but he'll need to back off once the season is under way.

He won't kill them all season long. Heck, he backed off during the first drill yesterday only running it for about half the anticipated time because he thought they were already in very good shape.

Scott brings discipline and defensive intensity that Don'tknowi has no clue about. They'll be a better ballclub because of it.
