Gotta admit, I was impressed with the kid yesterday. Not with his workout (I would expect every potential NFL QB draft pick to complete passes with ease without anybody rushing or blitzing them), but with his interview with the ESPN guys and how he addressed the coaches in attendance. Perhaps the kid has matured? He just might go from Johnny Douchebag to just Johnny Manziel now.

not sure what people were expecting. JFF is a lot of things, but I do not think he is a moron. He knows his actions and words over this period are going to make him or cost millions of dollars. You do not need to be in mensa to figure that out. You really wont know where he is as a person until a year down the road. That isnt an assumption on whether or not he has changed, just a realistic perspective.

I hope JDM sees this thread.

So he figured out how to listen to someone on how to present himself. That doesn't change the fact that he can't throw and is guaranteed beyond any possible doubt whatsoever to be a complete bust.

A lot of GMs didn't like the workout.......it was too hollywood. Dude had a live DJ there, it was a complete circus.

I still have a LOT of questions about his mechanics, and the bad reads he made in games every single week that you can get away with in college, but not the pros.

Only time will tell what he's going to do or how he will grow, but IMO he is a developmental project, not a sure fire starter and top draft pick.

Fuck that! Surely Jerry isn't that stupid? :L

Yes. He. Is. The proof is in the Romo.

Jerry would draft him just to make money and he would only see the field in the fourth quarter of preseason games. And you sips would say "I told you he was a bust."

I could see that. Jerry is all about the money now and I could see him drafting JM just to sell more tickets and merchandise and continue to fuck this organization up for another 5-10 more years. It's so tough being a Cowboys fan :L

Didn't I just watch a quarterback about the same size win the Super Bowl?

Oh, and Drew Brees says Hi, too!!:suds:

Wilson has 10 lbs on him. Can we stop mentioning Brees? Bree's and Manziel have almost nothing in common on the field. They are both Texas kids and relatively short, that is where the comparison ends. Brees is one of the smartest QBs in the game. Reason for his success is his ability to read a defense and get the ball out of his hands. That is the exact flaw in Manziel's game. Size is a bigger issue for Johnny than those guys, especially Brees. Manziel likes to create with his feet and has pretty terrible pocket presence. He seems more comfortable out of the pocket than in it. Johnny will need to tone down the scrambling to last in the league. He needs to work on his decision making. He can succeed, but he needs some growth in mental part of the game. Physically, he has the ability to play in the NFL. I would worry about drafting him because what makes him so good in college and made him famous, could be what makes him fail in the NFL.

I agree with much of this. However, he already seems to be willing to make the necessary changes to his game. He says that he knows he can't do the same things in the NFL that he did in college. Whether what he says and what he does on the field end up being the same, only time will tell.

I think his style will end up being very much like Russell Wilson's. He'll pass from the pocket more than he did in college, but still have the threat of making plays with his legs. I think making better choices re: using his legs can potentially make him more dangerous, not to mention protect him because he definitely ain't big.

The one thing that would worry me is that he will likely go to a crappy team with an O-line that can't protect him and that team will expect him to start right away. If he goes to a team like that, I hope they are smart enough to sit him for at least his rookie season and/or only start him if the O-line is solid.

I just wonder what kind of player Johnny would be if you take away the improv, it kind of defines him. That is what makes him so hard to project. He is a whirling dervish of up disciplined excellence, at least in college, can that work in the NFL? Can he be effective in a traditional offense playing traditionally?

I don't know. That is THE question with him.

The comparison with Brees is not in style or type of play. It's in size and arm strength. They play two completely different styles of game. I do remember when Brees was a hair away from being washed up in the league. He was mediocre to sometimes really good. Then he torn up his shoulder, had surgery, and went to New Orleans, and became a HOFer.

Brees has both a stronger and more accurate arm than Manziel, and neither is close.

Also he won't make the Hall.

He may now, but he didn't when they were the same age. And whether he makes the HOF, I don't know. But he has been in the top 3 or 4 QBs in production for the last six or seven years. So he's been pretty good.

It's hard for me to believe I've gotten into an argument for Manziel. Really cant stand the guy. I just believe, that from the perspective of being a football player, and what that really means, he's got a chance to be pretty good. He would be much better as a mid-rounds pick, but since getting a QB means keeping your job in the NFL, he will be taken sooner rather than later.

I will give you more accurate, not sure on arm strength. Brees has an average arm at best.

Maybe average arm strength. His arm is significantly above average, though.

Manziel is well below average.

maybe he did, or not. All I know is I watched them both play in hi school, Brees more than Manziel. Watched Brees at Purdue. He never had what people would call a strong arm. More like adequate. But you are right concerning his accuracy. Very accurate.

But whatever, I don't really give a shit if Manziel succeeds or fails. I think it's just that you are so sure you're right, that keeps me involved. I personally saw them both play, I'll stick with my opinion.
