Should Vegas have a committee member in upcoming CFP?

Committee is set, but the over reaction based poll voters and media play a huge roll in how we perceive how good a team is or how not good a team is.

And why didnt Vegas have a say in the BCS?

If anyone isnt agenda driven and has the best idea of who the best teams are at the end of the year it is Vegas odds makers.

Lets think about this, they are professionals in analyzing teams. Whereas the media (AP) poll becomes a total guessing game and the poll that matters (coaches) is put forth by guys that dont get to analyze or even watch a quarter of the games.

Just a thought.

Wouldn't Vegas have an incentive to vote for teams that attract the heaviest betting?

In theory yes. But this would be taking a respectable oddsmaker and hiring him to be a part of the CFP.

Not so much take the acting Mirage oddsmaker and giving him a say in things.

Vegas never picks which teams play, only the betting lines after the games are set. They don't care about rankings just the bets they will make money on. Also, one word about that: CORRUPTION.

This ^^^^. They make their money from results not long term contracts that are effected by media hype. I'd say 1/4- 1/3 of the committee should be vegas.

A guy more like the De Niro than the Pesci character in Casino?

You would have to hire that person away from the industry and even then there would be residual conflict of interest.

I would be shocked if there was one school president or coach that would want Vegas to have any part of a CFB playoff. The chance of accusations of point shaving or game fixing is just not worth it. If Vegas gets in on CFB whats to stop them from getting in on selecting teams for March Madness? (And some of the biggest scandals in college have be in basketball when it comes to point shaving and such)

I know they dont pick who plays. But I believe they have the best gauge of who the best teams are after everyone has played 12 games.
I dont see how corruption could be any greater than what we have now. In fact, Vegas tries to get equal bets on both teams.

The 10% vig is where they make their money in sports gaming.

Think about that on the other side of the coin for a minute. The coaches make up 1/3 of the current BCS with their coaches poll.

Of course they wouldnt want their influence of who plays who taken away.

Great, lets bring the mob in on the action. Nothing could go wrong there.

Is that really your perception of Vegas bookmakers?

Watching too many movies man...

Can't compare football and basketball point shaving. The amount of players and difference in difficulty of scoring makes it an apples to oranges comparison. Also, Vegas having a say in picking the 4 best teams has nothing to do with the betting process. If there is a Vegas/player connection it's going to happen regardless of if a team makes the 4 team playoff. There could possibly be a bigger payoff because it's a playoff game, but I still don't think the payoff would be enough to risk jail time and being banned from a profession that many of those guys spend a lifetime trying to get to the higher levels in.

It would be a convenient foot in the door for outside influences to manipulate it to their advantage. Vegas odds are driven by the proportion of where the money is being bet. If the rankings were driven by Vegas or confidence in the bets why wouldn't a multimillionaire/billionaire booster throw a few extra million on their guys just to swing things in their favor (big time gamblers already do this each way for favorable lines/odds)? There's already big money trying to influence the recruiting decisions and keeping star players happy but you don't think big money would try to influence the odds makers portion?
