Media needs ratings, so they say outlandish stuff to stir the pot.....I think JDW referenced that earlier.

Stafford is a top 10 QB closer to top 5 and quite frankly don't care to discuss him with others that think he isn't.

It's like discussing if Miguel Cabrera is a HOF baseball player......If someone can't see Stafford is a top 10 QB I'm not going to waste much time discussing it.

I still love ya smitty, just not your stance on Stafford.:suds:

I used to like Jaws, until I started watching him more. The more he says, the less smart he seems.

I honestly think Stafford is a great QB. I think he is at the top of the second tier of quarterbacks right now.

The top tier for me would be Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers. Brady isn't in that tier fort two reasons. The first is that he is having a very down year, and the second is that Brady has always been terrible when teams have been able to get pressure on him. His line is not what is used to be. I don't think he ever produces like he has in the past because he isn't a very tough quarterback and he's going to be hit.

The second tier for me includes Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, and Eli Manning. I think that the best two quarterbacks in this group are Stafford and Romo. Eli is clutch, but very inconsistent. Rivers is playing great right now, but he sucked for two years prior and I hate him. Cutler has a rocket and can put up points, but is inconsistent. Ryan is good, but I never feel like he produces like he really should for all the talent that is around him. Luck has avoided the sophomore slump, but he is in a very quarterback friendly (not as in one that gives him gaudy stats, but one that makes it easy to not fuck up) offense. These are all guys that you can build a high powered offense with them at the center.

Tier III for me are guys that have shown flashes of becoming upper echelon or have proven to be good enough to win in the right situation. They include RGIII and Cam Netown on the talent front, and the likes of Roethlisberger, Alex Smith, and Joe Flacco.

The elite question is a very tough one to answer. Is Tom Brady an elite quarterback? He isn't playing like one this year. Eli definitely seemed elite for a year or two. Would Brees not be elite if Manning wouldn't have thrown that Interception to lose the Super Bowl.

I would say that whoever said he is playing at an elite level, but is not yet elite was spot on. I went and put together the yards TDs and INTs for Manning, Brees, Rodgers, and Stafford the the past 2 and a half seasons. I substituted the 2010 season for Manning's 2011 season because of him being out. Stafford is 2nd in yards, last in TDs, and threw the most INTs. He actually isn't far off from manning if you include rushing TDs 3 less TD's to 5 more INTs. It also shows Brees and Rodgers being in a class of their own when you include TD INT ratio. Even though Brees throws the most TDs Rodgers is out of this world for the ratio.
Stafford: 4967 20 17
5038 41 16
2617 16 6
12622 77 39
Rushing 6

Manning 4659 37 11
2919 26 6
4700 33 17
12278 86 34
Rushing 1

Brees 5177 43 19
5476 46 14
2290 19 5
12943 108 34
Rushing 3

Rodgers 4643 45 6
4295 39 8
2191 15 4
11168 99 18
Rushing 5

I think that these numbers show Matthew Stafford as being right on the cusp of elite. He's only thrown 1 int for every 8 games more than Manning or Brees over the past 40 games. His touchdowns are only one less every ten than Manning. This especially inspires confidence when you factor in that this is including Stafford's first full season as a starter. I know that numbers aren't everything. Matt Ryan's numbers are pretty good, and he sucks. If Stafford continues this season at this pace he will legitimately be in the elite conversation even among non Lions fans. If he continues this pace through next season he will be entrenched in that conversation. That isn't saying he will be, it looked like Rivers was going to be elite before a couple of shitty seasons.

Right now today Stafford is the better QB when compared to Luck!

Luck is in his second year and Stafford has experience. When Luck puts some more mileage on his game and proves he can lead comebacks like Matty Pimp Stafford we can have tis argument. I also do not believe the Colts are better than the Lions. As messed up as Lions run game has been in past years I still think the Lions run the ball better and DHB is not a #2 wideout and Hilton is not a #1. I like Fleener but not enough to think the Colts matchup with the Lions offense.

And on a side note Jaworski is a douche bag!

Actually Luck is racking up comebacks at an unprecedented rate including a sick one against the Lions last season. I hope the Lions get the opportunity to prove they're better than the Colts but the evidence so far definitely doesn't support that conclusion. You realize the Colts are have knocked off the Niners, Hawks & Broncos so far, right ?

Unless ofcourse I post or paste it then it becomes fact, in my minds eye.:laugh3:

I'm just curious, who besides Stop thinks Stafford is elite right now?

I'm close. He's playing the position at an elite level right now, but I need some playoff wins and a couple of 10 win seasons in a row or, say, three 10 win seasons out of four years, before I'll put him into that elite group.

The way I see it is that Manning will be retiring, Brady and Brees will be about a year or two away from doing the same and Aaron Aaron Rodgers will "the" guy at that time. With Manning gone and Brees and Brady not far behind I think Stafford and Luck have strung together enough wins and playoff appearances to move up into that elite class.

The next step for them will be avoiding the "Phillip Rivers Effect" where you're an elite QB for 4 or 5 years but never bag a Super Bowl win. Even worse would be to pull a Marino and become easily the best QB to never win the big one...

And I'm now half way through page 12. Be caught up in no time...

I'm about as close as you TPaul.. I agree an elite QB needs to win some playoff games atleast.. Marino won his share for all the fuss about him never winning a SB..

9 wins in his last 24 games. Call Canton.
5 wins in his last 8 games. 19 wins in his last 40. Still only 25 years old.

Think what this guy will be doing with 5 more years of experience?!

(You seriously think Stafford is right behind Manning for MVP!?! C'mon TPaul. Mike Thomas just called... He thinks you're going a little too far.)

Tell me why not? If not him then who?

He's got his team battling for the division lead, headed towards a playoff birth, and next to Manning he's put up the 2nd best passing numbers in the league. Drew Brees is right in there, Rivers deserves a mention. I think Megatron's name would have to be in the discussion as well.

But it's all moot because of what Manning is doing so far. He's been on a record-shattering pace.

But yeah, I definitely think Stafford is right behind Manning for MVP, and I think my argument on that one is much stronger than yours. That award deals with just this season, in which Stafford has been one of the top 3-4 QBs in the league through 8 games...

"When" is the important thing. Putting the cart before the horse so to speak here.
Not at all. I've said all along that I don't believe Stafford is an elite QB yet. I have said that he's among the best few playing the game right now, this very season, but he needs playoff wins, a league MVP, or a Super Bowl ring to be considered elite.

I also said that I think he's a future Hall of Fame QB. And I do think that. I think he puts up monster numbers and wins at least some playoff games, if not a Super Bowl or two. He's certainly got the talent, and remember, he's only 25 years old. His window is a good 13-15 years long here.

We just got get the right team around him to make a run, but it's certainly possible. I think you'd see that too if you weren't so dead-set on being absolutely close-minded on the issue.

I know your knock on him is the "what has he done in terms of wins?" mind-set, which is valid, but that completely discounts his age. Go look up what the likes of Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jonny Unitas, Peyton Manning, Burt Farva, Aaron Rodgers, Dan Marino and Tom Brady had done by the age of 25 in the NFL. Their greatness wasn't instant. I don't see why Stafford can't do the same over the next 10 to 15 years. He's got the tools, that's for sure.

Guess I'm just more of a glass half full guy... I want to believe that my team's 25 year old rocket-armed franchise QB is destined for great things based off what I've seen out of him so far. If you want to insist that he's not because he doesn't always throw the ball the way you'd prefer, then be my guest...

Good God....Now I'm agreeing with TP......WTF has the world become.....Stafford is still a PIMP and CJ is a monster.....Just draft another 5 on Defense and 2 on offense and this team will take off.

What exactly is your opinion and Stafford and the Jaworski rankings?
I do not think I can make this any simpler than I already have but I will try for your sake. TP was had his pompoms and was singing Stafford's praises to the tune of him being a 1st round ballot HOF'er or something like that so I said that TP is on one end of the spectrum regarding Stafford and that Jaworski was on the other end because he just this week ranked Stafford #11 overall in the NFL. Now the idiots on this site who only wish to pick a fight (see Internet Tough Guys) try to turn that statement into my supporting Jaworski. Thus leading me to have to point out their illiteracy. If you read all the posts, you would know my position. I said I would like nothing more than for Stafford to have a huge 2nd half and take us to the playoffs. Now spin this however you like again. OBTW kudos to you for have the fortitude to respond to my last post without all the usual profanities.

Not at all. I've tried discussign things with you in the past but your schtick is old and tiresome. So if I think you're a douchebag, I'll call you one. Plain and simple.

Come up here and sit by me.....I don't need you telling the rest of the kids

I'm not too concerned with your bus driving chronicles. Go tell those stories to your mommy. I'm sure she's right next door.

calling....I could go all Dr. Phil on you if you like but I wouldn't get paid

I'm not here to impress you. If a few "cuss" words bother you, then so be it. And I doubt some bus driver from BFE, Tennessee could ever give any kind of advice to anyone.

Denard Robinson is super fast
LOL Never said anything to the contrary. But that "super speed" sure is paving his way to the HOF eh? ;)

We turn it into a fight? You pop in after a few days and automatically start taking shots at certain posters and WE start the fights? Me thinks you've got your facts wrong son.

And I said Jaws opinion means nothing to me and he isn't on any end of your alledged spectrum. That's what I'm saying. He flip flops his opinion, like other media figures do, so I don't consider him a good source of anything. Just because you claim he's on another end of some spectrum doesn't make it so.

Incorrect. Lots of stats get put up here to discuss opinions. Those stats are facts, they can't be changed or debated.
