I imagine they will do something very similar.

They are hard to figure out. You'd think that such a good school, in a state that seems to rank highly in a lot of things, with a lot of sports fans in a sports-friendly city would have so much trouble bringing in high-caliber recruits.

Oh yeah. It fucking snows like a motherfucker.

I think it goes back to when the Gophers played off campus in the Metrodome (shithole). Even when they were decent, there was a disconnect. Then they get the new stadium, but are awful and the novelty wears off quickly.

Jerry Kill seems like a great guy and solid coach, but he needs desperately to have some winning seasons. I live here in MN, and my sister went to "the U." Nobody seems to care at all about that team.

I would imagine the newly announced $190 million athletic complex plan will help with the Golden Gophers recruiting process:

Short video regarding the plan for the new Minnesota athletic complex:

The B1G schools have really been stepping it up lately with facility upgrades.

That might be enough to move Minnesota into 6th place in Big Ten football facilities...

1. Ohio
2. Nebraska
3. Michigan
4. Penn State
5. Michigan State

If Minnesota wants to compete on a regular basis, they would have to dump tons of money and go the Oregon/Oklahoma State route..

and pray.

By the time it's done they'll be way behind again.

I mean even if Minnesota completed that now... That's like baseline stuff for elite schools.

Not saying it's fair. It's just reality.

I think the thing that finally is making Minnesota plan this major facility upgrade is the fact that the other B1G West Div. schools considered near the bottom of the conference in the 'great facilities wars' are finishing up their shiny new upgrades (the new Wisconsin & Iowa facilities are almost finished and are purported to be fantastic, and the new Northwestern athletic complex is supposedly going to be very special).

With the first two phases completed, Wisconsin is finishing up phase III:

I'm sure the new Northwestern $220 million athletic complex plans which I posted on page 18 of this thread also is acting as a wake-up call for Minnesota, but I think the nearly completed Wisconsin upgrade is what concerns the Gophers the most (in my post above regarding the Minnesota upgrade, check out the last few paragraphs of the article...it mentions how Minnesota is lagging behind because most other B1G schools are undergoing facility upgrades).

^^^best seats in the house are now row 1 of that balcony. it literally feels like you are floating over the field, and is actually a lot closer than you would think. actually, the skyboxes right below that are probably the best, but not for the price tag they come with

The B1G always comes around. The region has bled a little in population, but the fans are still there and the schools are still top class. It's actually really nice to see the upgrade in coaching and facilities.

Yep. I think with what Wisconsin has done at coach now, coupled with BOB at PSU, Hoke at Michigan, Meyer at OSU and Fitzgerald at NW, the conference is definitely on the upswing from the drop of the last 5-6 seasons. While I hate Purdue, I'm rooting for coach Hazell to come in and turn them around, as well. He's a great guy that I can't root against. To be honest, I think Iowa and Minnesota are gonna be battling for the cellar, even when Maryland and Rutgers get here. Iowa has got to start looking at the post-Ferentz era, and Minnesota should not be settling for these shitty seasons with everything they have going for them.

Yea. Captain Kirk seems to be really missing Spock. I've never been fond of the coaching merry-go-round. But Iowa needs a new one real real bad. He lost the players. Ten years ago, they would never have pulled the shit these guys have been. They loved their program and followed Kirk to victory.

Will be interested to see Maryland and Rutgers come on board. I think getting on the East Coast will really amp up the exposure. Not to the New York Boston level but close....since we know the ESPN universe circles those two cities!
