I'm not sure you guys should want Chase Young. His time as a Niner left a lot to be desired and he knew he was playing for a new contract and yet he still didn't play all that well in SF.
Yeah I agree about Young.

Signings have slowed down considerably, guess it's waiting game now.

Yah no surprise...

I still don't know what the Lockett restructure is but let's assume we lost $22M or so on Fant/Williams... let's say we had $55M or so to play with (speculating on Lockett). Now we're down to $33M before the cheaper signings today (Harris/Brown). So that's $28-30M... take out $9M for the draft, $4-5M for reserves/PS... Seattle only has like $15-20M left to spend.

Now we can do some restructuring and cuts, but Seattle also had one of the fewest signed player rosters on the league. So people all butt hurt we didn't go get Queen or overpay for these players on day 1-2 are baffling to me.

Tenders offered to Jackson and Rhattigan.

Don't mind keeping Jackson at all. He did good things. More I look at this I think MacDonald is going to move Witherspoon to safety/nickel (required to have that in his team) and maybe put Bryant at nickel/SS. Burns of course was brought back today so Woolen/Jackson (assuming nobody matches) would be your starters, with Burns as a backup outside DB.

Love can do FS/SS/Nickel. There's no reason to think Witherspoon can't do FS/SS (and he's already a beast in Nickel), Bryant would be more a SS/Nickel guy if he can figure out coverage in Nickel... MAYBE Seattle makes a play for Nubin (about the only safety in this draft that works), but MacDonald's scheme requires his safeties to be basically be able to move/shift/play FS/SS/Nickel on demand.

Little confused by what they are planning to do at LB at this point.
Yeah, did we just take it for granted that Queen would follow Coach Mac? We just seem like we are caught flat footed right now at that position. Do we have to go back to Bobby with hat in hand and beg to come back one more time? We screwed pooch on his first departure (the way it was handled), and may have just done it again.

IMO Mac didn't consider 3 years ~$14M per worth it. And IMO Mac would be the best judge of character on that...

I'd rather 100% have Leonard Williams over Queen. I know Williams is gonna be like $20M, but if it's $14M for Queen or $20M for Williams, I'll take Williams. I think Seattle will target Colson or Cooper in the draft and perhaps supplement that with another safety and the 3 safety system he uses.

Now at this point we have Rhattigan (yeesh), but if we signed Queen and let Williams walk, WTF do you have on the DL? lol... you're not going to get HOF off ball linebacker play with a horrible DL (whether you run a 3-4 or 4-3).

I mean end of day, Seattle still has a great EDGE and DL presence. Williams, Jones, Reed (might ware down granted - maybe Young can come on), but then Mafe, Nwosu, and basically a first round pick in Hall? Okay so we're a bit weak up the middle, but those roles are CHEAP. I'm not spending $14M unless I have a ton of cap on an off ball linebacker... Williams for $6M more (just taking average) is FAR worth what Queen would be.

Taylor WOW. I'll be curious to see what MacDonald can do with him. I wish I could sit down with Mike and ask him what he thinks about Taylor.
Taylor has talent. He lacks discipline. At least in the scheme he was in last year.

Hopefully Mac will put in a position to succeed

I mean Taylor will be 27 in a week or so, but he was still a 2nd round pick. I hate to give up on a 2nd round pick that quickly. Carroll and Hurtt had zero fucking clue what to do with nearly a 1st round pick in Hall... seems ridiculous to me that we'd just give up this easily.

I mean if Taylor and Hall can get some proper EDGE coaching.... Mafe/Nwosu/Hall/Taylor with Williams (full offseason) and Jones (hopefully fixed by a coaching staff that hopefully knows WTF they are doing)? Good lord. I'm not at all concerned about our lack of ILB... problem last year despite Wagner and Brooks was they were hitting guys already 5+ yards down the line.

Mac should certainly know him well.... Queen is only counting $6M against the cap in 2024. That's peanuts. It bumps up to $17M next year, but those future year numbers can be massaged. I definitely would have been ok with that kind of deal to bring him here, especially with the alternative being no starting caliber LBs under contract. I'm sure there is some sort of plan that we just cannot see, but I'll be listening to the next JS interview to see if he addresses what happened here. I know he won't lay out his hand, but it would be good to understand if we were even in the running for Queen (or Brooks).

I don't see the by-year numbers for Williams yet, but I suspect this first year will be well under what the yearly avg is. That's just how the contracts typically go, so at least by sheer math there was room to sign both Queen and Williams if that's what they wanted to do. I guess we just have to conclude they weren't over the moon enough on Queen.

Haven't found a breakdown on Williams contract but here is Queens:

Don't know much about him

Makes sense. He does FS or SS, and spent more time in the box last season than he did in coverage... he'll play some slot too. Very Jordan Love esque... MacDonald requires safeties to interchange between at least 2 of the 3 of those roles (box, FS, SS) with one ideally being able to do all 3. About the only safety in the draft that could do all 3 is Nubin... which I could very much see Seattle trade back into the late 1st to take him (while acquiring another 2nd).

Either way, it's nice to see two starters now have a combined cap hit of prob. like $12M when it would've been $46M (lol good lord). I understand paying a good safety, but we had WAY too much money locked up there.

Little bit of news on Lockett...

Lockett because of the previous restructures will only be $18M this year (about an $8M cap saving) and then 2025 he'll be VERY expensive, but the dead money is so low he'll just move on or retire.

Williams only $10.4M this year, huge amount next year (about $30M) but 3rd year is lower (at the remaining 25M or so.

Little less than I expected. I was thinking Williams/Lockett after moves would be in the $22M range, but now we're looking about $5M higher... so not a ton to work with... maybe about $5M left (excluding rookies/reserves for PS-injury). I don't think Seattle has much room left (unless more restructures or extensions) to make many more moves.

I think we're going to see quite a few lower level cuts coming. The major holes that remain is LG and ILB. The active contract is up to 55 players so that's good.. but we're basically out of cash.

I disagree about the cap space Spotrac and OTC have the Seahawks with about 33 million left and the draft will cost about 8.4 and contracts are structure to make the first year cap hit light (if they want to add players). There are teams still in the red for cap space and only 7 teams have more cap space then the Seahawks at this point in time. I feel the Seahawks have lots of flexibility to make various moves for signing players or trading for players if they want to make any moves.
