Also. My issue is engineering. Diagnostics. If you change too many parts you don’t know for certain what was bad.

But what do we gain starting Mason? A possible first round bounce in the playoffs? A lower draft pick? He seems better than Pickett but that doesn’t mean he should be looked at as a starter. Guy has a great backup ceiling.

I guess what we might gain is Pickens not losing his mind. Other than that… I would have rather seen what Pickett could do the last two games. That might tell us more about Rudolph than actually playing Rudolph.
If Pickett is the long term answer, why put him in for 1 game? Let him get healthy for next year, no? Why risk aggravating an injury for 1 game? It's not like we are going to the 2nd round with Pickett as QB either so what's the difference?

If things are bad and certain parts stay the same, then you know what needs to change. But you don't know what needs to change if you don't change anything, so certain things need to change to improve. The only way to improve is to diagnose what's wrong and change what's wrong until it's the way it needs to be.

The main reason to keep THEE Brett Mason Rudolph as starting QB are as follows:

George Pickens - 11 rec, 326 yds, 2 TDs in the last 2 games.
The Steelers are 2-0 with him as the Starter.
If Kenny Pickett is the QB1 for next year, then why risk him getting injured again when we are likely not making it past the 1st round of the playoffs regardless of who the starter is.
THEE Brett Mason Rudolph is averaging 282 passing yards per game as the starter, Kenny Pickett has thrown for 250+ yards a total of once this year with an average y/g of 172.5.
The Steelers have scored 30+ points twice this year. Both games where Mason Rudolph was the starter.

I don't think Pickett is the long-term answer but I KNOW the riendeer isn't. I do think Mason gives the team the best chance to win this season. I just don't place any value in winning this season. This team isn't going anywhere. You need a QB and a competent coaching staff. We have neither.

And I think it's folly to go into next season expecting anything more than mediocre play from anyone in this current QB room.

I don't think you understand diagnostics. Was the problem Canada or Pickett or both? If you change out both at the same time you eliminate none of the variables. I'm saying it would have been nice to know 100% that Pickett wasn't being held back by Canada before moving on.

And how much if this improvement is due to the removal of Canada and how much is due to the removal of Pickett?

Show your work.

Typical Mark Madden making up shit and then Pickett having to answer to it.

Saw this. Odd though that several reliable reporters said the same thing. It wasn't just Madden from what I understand.

First I saw was when Madden posted this:

And seriously if any Steeler writer knew this it would have been out there as it is fairly big news.

I just saw Cam Heyward use some word salad in response to it... Makes me wonder if there is some validity to it. Because why not just outright call it BS? Instead, he takes the PR road to say he never heard it. But I mostly think its a non-issue.

Mark Madden also claimed TJ Watt skipped his exit interview 2 years ago... Watt also came straight forward to claim its false. Madden has a history of making false accusations.

Yeah, I can't stand Madden. Really wish I would've pants'd his fat ass at the casino when I wanted to. My wife insisted it would just be another in a long line of bad decisions so I passed. Now look at me. All sad n shit.

I had the chance to at least give him the finger a few times at Station Square & Ross Park while he was doin some live shows on separate occasions... But I decided it wasn't worth the negative attention that he obviously seeks.

Much like the 93.7 fan show... Fuck all those guys RITP

So, I'm still no believer in Mason. I don't think he's any different from the guy we've seen him be before.

He had the fortune of playing two games against two of the worst defenses in the league, and our run game truly came alive. And this coming week is against the Ravens who already have the #1 seed locked up.

Mason does throw a better deep ball than Kenny does. He reads defenses better, and actually got our best playmaker involved. He is our best QB right now.

But I don't see a future in that, or him. He's at best a manager with a good arm, like Flacco. And I HOPE whatever flashes he shows in the next week+ don't lead to the same kind of mistake Baltimore made with that guy.

Naturally I would expect a 6-7 year vet to have a better capability of seeing the field. But I've said it before & I'll say it again that I do think Kenny has regressed a lot. Not exactly sure what is the exact problem, or if we can just attribute that to a combination of issues... Bad OC/scheme, distrust in the OL, playmakers failing him, etc. Got into bad habits of trying to extend plays even when pockets were relatively clean, or being too quick with progressions and not giving plays time to develop, or just flat out staring down his throws. Lots of concerning issues. But after Canada got fired, he had some good games. I think had that DJ TD been called correctly against the Bengals we'd be having a different discussion. And obviously had he stayed healthy then Mason would have stayed the Mason we already knew, and he wouldn't have sniffed the field.

One things for sure, they wasted a lot of money on Trubisky to perform as a capable backup.

Mitch is a fortunate man, making so much money for so little positive work. But damn does he blow, he needs to be gone next year.

Kenny seems to have been ruined. Had he ever had a decent OC, or an OL that helped him, he might have been somebody. At this point he looks like a salvage job at best. And I'm afraid it won't happen here if it ever does.

It will be interesting to see what happens to end this year. By stroke of luck & the Steelers get into the playoffs I think Mason will be the starter. Much like this week's decision at QB, it just doesn't make sense to blow up what little cohesion they have found riding into January even if KP is healthy.

I think Kenny gets another shot next offseason to turn things around. 2 more years under contract, but 2025 offseason a decision on his 5th year needs to be made... Whether its his job to lose or not this offseason will depend on what magic Khan has up his sleeve. If Khan gets aggressive (Fields) then we'll know KP's career as a Steelers is all but over. He'll likely get traded. But if they draft a prospect or grab a FA fish then KP will get to play out his rookie contract and attempt to earn his keep.

Either way they need to abort the Trubisky experiment and bring in someone new. Add more pieces to the OL and please get a capable OC.

I worry we're going to get a KP and Mason competition next year with this asshat coach thinking the answer is already on the team.

But what do I want then? Tomlin isn't going anywhere. Do we want him to ruin another draft pick with his incompetence?
