I think who offers what will also determine where he goes. What if his feels towards the Giants is neutral? He's got the highs of World Series' rings and lows of the exit process that may make it neutral for him. It is also a new regime in charge, which could go either way toward his affinity or disgust of the organization.

Ultimately, I think he'll go wherever he feels is the best opportunity. Does he desire to win? Maybe he lands on a clear contender, either as a stop gap 5th starter or as a reliever. Does he want to continue starting? Then maybe he goes to a rebuilding team that has the opportunity for him to continue pitching every 5 days. Does he want to come home to SF? I guess we'll learn more in the next week or so.
It is also possible that FZ wants nothing to do with him. He has shown that he has little/no regard for any pre-him history in the org. Or, maybe he would like to bring him back from a story pov, but he looks at the asset (player) and doesn’t see anything that is salvageable.

But I would think giving him 2-3 starts at home would have a decent gate bump. Signing him would cost a prorated 700k per year year, though, so would the gate be enough to recoup those expenses?

Outside of possibly 2021, he has been not good since leaving the Giants.
Basically, ever since the biking accident in Colorado. He was having a strong year up to that point, then he was shelved for a long time (the rest of the season?) and was really never an ace again.

In all seriousness, bringing him in as a bully piece is a no cost high benefit proposition. But does he want to come back to the Giants? Apparently, he left on somewhat bad terms (I am still waiting for him to tell the story that he promised he would tell just before everything shut down in ‘20).

I would guess he would get multiple offers from teams as a flier. He either has bad feelings towards the Giants or he doesn’t. That will determine if he signs with us or not.
Can he play 1B ...?

Former Giants manager Bruce Bochy has his new team running smoothly...

I miss Bochy. He was intimidating. He had that 1000 yard stare from those cold, black eyes. You did not fuck with BB.

Kapler, OTOH, looks like he's waiting to report you to the league office for using the wrong pronouns.

Vosler lost his place on the Reds' roster to another former Giant minor leaguer (also Heliot's brother)

Looking at the Pirates, they are off to a good start. These guys are helping so far:
Connor Joe - .357/.455/.683 in 66 PAs
Andrew McCutchen - .275/.381/.507 in 84 PAs
Bryan Reynolds - .294/.319/.553 in 94 PAs
