Both Glenn and Johnson to be interviewed by the Colts for HC.

I really don't expect Johnson back next year. That's the huge trend for a while now is the young innovative offensive mind. Maybe he's so young and so came out of nowhere that we get one more season with him, but depending on how he interviews in person he's probably gone.

“Since Week 9, when the Lions’ turnaround began, Goff has used play action on more than 30 percent of his dropbacks—a top-10 rate in the NFL. He’s used it well. Since Week 9 on play-action passes, Goff has earned a 98 NGS passing score, tops in football.”
As for taking care of the football, Goff had just a single turnover in the team’s final nine games—a botched snap exchange that center Frank Ragnow took responsibility for. And Goff hasn’t thrown an interception in 324 passing attempts—the fifth longest streak in NFL history.

In his press conference on Tuesday, Holmes sounded up to the task.

“On the plane going back (from Green Bay), yeah, I was excited,” Holmes said. “I was like, ‘Man, it’s time to get players now.’ And that just gives me juices, man, when that opportunity and those windows come up. It’s exciting to have the capital that we have.”

That last sentence is important. The Lions, for yet another offseason, have a lot of offseason resources. They have two first round picks, two second-round picks, and a fair amount of cap space, too. But how does that measure up with the rest of the league?

Find another Safety to pair with Kirby, Mr. Holmes. I suggest you consult with @Old Lion

I hope Holmes goes easy on the free agency signings this off-season and mostly re-signs players that were key contributors for the 2022 season.

Maybe sign a capable starter at outside CB, but other than that, I'd like to see him re-sign Cominsky, Buggs, Anzalone and maybe Will Harris for the defensive side.

James Bradberry is almost a must. The corner room is a mess, adding an elite player at the position that can hold down 1 side while helping mentor the multiple CB's the Lions better draft is critical.

Agree with this possibility. He's 29 years old and maybe the max you offer is a 2- or 3-year contract. He signed with Philly for 7.25M on a 1-year prove it deal and you might as well expect to pay 10-12M per year and I'm fine with that.

Bucs CB Jamaal Dean is another one to consider as je's only 26 years old and has been one of the top 25 graded CB in the league for all four years. He'll obviously come at a higher price than Bradbery, but I trust Bradberry more than the latter not to mention a shorter-term contract and much less expensive.

I wouldn't pick up Okudah's 5th year option either at a cost of 11M for 2024. Teams can no longer rescind those 5th year options like they did to Ebron.

Okudah should be strictly on a prove you belong in 2023 and they'll determine after that on whether he remains part of their future.

I despise stating the following, but Will Harris should be re-signed as a depth player just in case Holmes isn't capable of drafting multiple CB in 2023.

Harris scored 20%-40% higher grades in 2022 than any previous season and was 20% higher graded than Okudah.

I see no reason to bring back DeShon Elliot either. There are 6 teams who have an expiring contract on their SS coming up, so Elliot may very likely be in the hunt for a rather good payday coming up in 2023.

Holmes can re-sign CJ Moore as a depth piece and see if Melifonwu develops. If you retain Elliot that will inhibit any possibility of Melifonwu being able to prove he belongs. Melifonwu was hand-pick drafted by Holmes.

You'll still begin 2023 with TW lll and Joseph and possibly another draft pick at Safety if the value is right or an UDFA.

Dean could work, I prefer Bradberry because it adds a truly elite player at a spot we are extremely weak. It gives 2-3 years for the Lions to build out the rest of the squad. Dean feels more like the final piece to a room that is near complete. I would still be thrilled with either, but we need to make some drastic moves to to correct that part of the team.

Every other part of the defense has parts in place that are clear long term solutions. CB's not a single one of them. Maybe Okudah grows into it, I am less hopeful of that than I am of Jacobs cleaning up the bad penalties.

I would love for Bradberry to be "the one so-called big signing: this off-season. Everything you stated rings true on paper - truly elite player, short-term 2-3 years, a mentor to the younger CB.

Apparently as usual, I am way off the mark as far as his value is considered. Spotrac has him at 17M per year. They've been known to be wrong numerous times and correct a few occasions. Their projections are equal to what Slay received from Philly once traded and nearly the same age now is Bradberry as to what Slay was when he received his extension.

That said, Holmes knows this team still has a lot of needs. He rejected the notion that they were “one player away,” and admitted he wanted to focus his offseason resources on the defensive side of the ball, where they finished in the bottom five in many statistical categories.

“There’s a lot of different areas that we can go, especially with the resources that we’ll have available to us,” Holmes said. “Obviously, our defense was ranked 32nd, so I mean it’s pretty obviously that we’re going to have to utilize some resources to try and improve that defense.”

But, again, he stressed that they have to be very selective in their process to make sure the players they get are a right fit schematically and culturally.

“We’ll be wise and smart and strategic in how we add, but again we don’t just spend big on getting a high-price guy,” Holmes said. “It’s got to be the right fit, and it’s got to be the right guy, and if it’s not the right guy then it doesn’t matter what the outside world thinks.”

"I told you guys after camp that I give him so much credit because we challenged him and he answered the challenge, but I also told you guys, look, it's basically his rookie season and he's kind of really getting this extensive action for the first time," Holmes said. "And he showed some good things, but when I say basically like a rookie season, he's going to have lumps. And he showed some good, he had some times that were not so good, but he's a he's a really young player. I think he's still developing."

There's no guarantee that Okudah becomes a CB1 and just the same should be warranted towards any of these 2023 incoming draft prospects.

Bradberry has proven to be that for all three teams he has played for even though Slay was considered CB1 for Philly. Three different teams. Three different systems and schemes and he still played up to CB1 level.

BB_72: I sure hope another team rewards Brown with a contract like the one projected above. I highly doubt it, but we've seen stranger occurrences before from teams with money to spend. The one positive trait leaning Brown's way is versatility as he has 12 games started at Center and 12 games started at RG. Nearly 11M per year appears to be an astronomical valuation for him. I could understand 5-7M per year. At 11M per year would put the Lions in guaranteed 4th round compensation territory for Brown in 2024.

BB_72: I cannot fathom Dean's value being below - 10M per year or even sub 12-13M per year.
