Hahaha!!! ...and hope like hell it was the right decision, because if you were wrong, you would be watching Willis continue his HOF career while Andrew Luck busted, from the unemployment line.

Aint that the truth. Man, just thinking about such a scenario was painful to me. On second thought I honestly just couldnt bring myself to do it. I have too much respect for Patrick Willis and he's the type of guy I'd like to see start his career with SF and end his career with SF (think BY). I'd rather just trade away our entire draft this season for Luck..But since neither is gonna happen its a moot point anyway.

Agreed! Willis brings much more to the team than just his position. When I think of the great LB's of the past, Nitschske, Butkis, Ham, Lambert, Taylor, Seau, Singletary, Lewis et al., how many of those guys ever switched teams in their prime, if at all?

Trading a Hall of Famer for a question mark? Doesn't compute in my book.

Remember that research shows that the #1 pick is possibly the least valuable pick in the entire draft, based on expected value of the player + salary + what else you could get by trading the pick. Everyone loves the potential of #1 pick, but history shows that its a bad bet....they don't work out often enough to justify the superstar cash they get.

Luck had a lot of hype as an unusually awesome prospect a couple months ago.....then the season started. We've all seen what Harbaugh did for Smith, the chance that Luck isn't as good as Harbaugh's offense made him look is very high, and that was borne out by his "struggles" (average play) late this season.

This thread is actually pretty hilarious. Just a few weeks ago this EXACT topic was discussed here, and anyone who said no to the trade was laughed off the board

(I exaggerate, but the MASSIVE consensus of the board was to make the trade)

hahaha. You have to love people who are CERTAIN about prospects. I mean, you'd think after watching sports for a year or two - let alone decades - at some point people would figure out that many of the most highly-regarded prospects never reaches even a top level, let alone all-time elite.

Its f*cking difficult to predict for pros with access to game tape and talking to college coaches and 100 hours of analysis, let alone goofs on a message board who have seen the guy play 2 or 3 times.

again, everything i've read to date says he's one of the best prospects in HISTORY. haven't read anything indicating he has a weakness? so even if he's not THE best QB to ever play, he can't be too shabby can he?

if he's the 3rd best NFL qb for 12 years, is that a 'bust'?

anyways, yes of course there's a chance he 'busts', what do you think the odds are on that.....75% he busts? 50%? 25%? other?

At the time? No.

Knowing what we know now? Absolutely.

With the comment mentioned above about Luck succeeding because Harbaugh quarterback friendly offense do we really know how good Luck is? Oregon was fast and got Luck rattled, but an NFL defense is much faster. Playing in Indy he would face Titans, Jags and Texans twice a year along with other AFC teams his best bet is to land in the NFC because only the Niners have a great defense.

Good question, what if he's on the level of Matt Schaub or Matt Ryan??

Who's better out of those too?

Stick to ridiculing people on the Giants board. We don't need your shit here.

No. I will take the proven player over the unproven prospect every time. Luck might turn out to be a great QB or he may turn out to be completely average. We already know what Willis is.

Plus I think the team can upgrade the QB position without losing one of the best LBs in the game and captain of the defense.

Well, here's my question. . .

It's the 1998 draft. Baltimore has the opportunity to trade Ray Lewis for the first overall pick and draft Peyton Manning. They also get to keep their own first round pick because all they have to give up is Lewis.

How does this change Baltimore's history? How many MLB could they have drafted that would have been able to give them similar results to Lewis? How have they done at QB at getting Peyton Manning results?

Is Ray Lewis more important to the Ravens success than Peyton Manning is to Indianapolis'? Please someone make this case.
