Steelers acquired ILB Avery Williamson and a 2022 seventh-round pick from the Jets in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick.

This is as close to a giveaway as you can come without it actually qualifying. 28-year-old Williamson has played 299 snaps this season after missing Week 1 as he completed his recovery from a torn ACL. He hasn't exactly been "good," but everything is colored by being on the Jets. The ex-Titan has an interception but zero sacks. He will presumably both grade and produce better in an elite defense looking to make up for Devin Bush's lost snaps.

The way Spillane has been playing, Avery is coming in as a depth guy.

Maybe sub in for Spillane on obvious passing downs.

Not anymore. V-Will, Spillane & Gilbert were all that remained at ILB. They had a safety playing ILB for a lot of snaps yesterday because Gilbert was out injured. They even opted to go with 3 OLB packages to get relief at ILB. It was scary.

And I wouldn’t say that Spillane and Williams are great ILBs, serviceable at best. The depth was desperately needed.

I need to add more depth to my liquor cabinet after the last two weeks.....Thinking of getting a larger bottle of Buffalo Trace......

They are playing great football. I admit they have a "ceiling" of sorts, but the way they've been playing isn't exactly sustainable. Spillane has been a crazy good surprise, but you can see his limitations on the stretch runs & in coverage. Williamson should provide great relief on passing downs.

Really good trade for the Steelers imo. They needed depth and I'm pretty sure Williamson will flourish in that D. Just getting away from the Jets has to make him think he hit the jackpot, let alone going to a team with SB aspirations.
