Grumpy Cat
Boo hoo. The Astros got a slap on the wrist for what they did and who they were/are as an organization. I guarantee you they’re celebrating right now. They are the most morally bankrupt organization in all of pro sports. Beating up women is funny to them. Lying and cheating? No problem! Literally nothing is taboo with that group as long as winning is the end result. I guarantee you Jeff Luhnow would endorse murder if it meant another World Series win.
For their widespread cheating and absolutely abhorrent behavior last season following the Taubman scandal, the punishments SHOULD have been:
- Lifetime bans for Luhnow and Hinch
- Fine of $50 Million
- Loss of ALL draft picks and international signings for the next 5 years
If Manfred had any balls at all, he would have gone scorched Earth on that franchise. You think you can get away with blatant cheating to win a World Series and throwing a bunch of female reporters under the bus while mocking domestic violence? Fine. Now you’re a bottom-feeding franchise with zero chance of competing for the next decade. Have fun with that.
1 year suspensions do NOTHING. Hinch and Luhnow can still control things from behind the scenes. How is MLB going to stop them? Are they going to tap Luhnow’s phones and make sure he’s not communicating orders to his interim GM?
Also, now that the other franchises know that you can literally cheat your way to a World Series title with only a 1 year suspension as the worst possible outcome, don’t you think more might be inclined to try it?
The only good punishment to come out of all of this (which isn’t mentioned in the article) is that Brandon Taubman also received a lifetime ban from working in ML baseball (as if any other team would hire him now anyway).
I stated in a previous post that I think its going to get progressively worse, not for each organization's individual action, but each action within MLB as a whole
I think they decided it was a bit early on the scorched earth policy but its coming, the Taubman thing is, to me, a separate issue
But Cora should be more, bc hasn't he been involved in a cheating scandal before?
