Dwight will play for his 6th franchise this season, but that is just half of the leaders Joe Smith, Chucky Brown, Tony Massenburg and Jim Jackson.

Now a trivia question, all four of those guys have one team in common, who is that team that all four played for?

I would add Batum in there too. That contract could be hard to get rid of though. More like Marvin Williams

The only team I can see taking Batum is the Wolves. If they are worried enough about the Butler Wiggins feud then Wiggins for Batum can make some sense. Batum fits in a little better with what the wolves want to do, and Hornets get a chance at a guy who still could turn into something great.

I don't think Wiggins WILL turn into something great, but that chance might be the best you can get for Batums contract.

I agree that is one pick I was always happy the Cavs traded, Wiggins, he seemed like he had grrat potential but hasn’t lived up to it. Could he? Maybe but to this point I expected more from him especially with Towns and Jimmy alongside

Playing for Clifford (an assistant when Howard was in Orlando) he had a bounce back year. Played really well for Charlotte.

He did play well...certainly better than his last yr in ATL.

Howard is an old school big with limited OFC moves playing in the wrong era. I like old school hi/lo post game, and playing inside out basketball, but you just don't see it coached like that much these days. This new perimeter game has exposed Howard's weaknesses...he's just a guy in this era.

Why?

What is their direction?

I get they lose Mozgov for an expiring contract, but they appear to be building a 35 win core. They are marginally better again.

Cap space earned for next year isn't going to amount to anything either, because no good player is signing there unless Brooklyn overpays. This, continuing the cycle.

At some point Brooklyn has to bottom out. When is that going to happen? This franchise has no long term plan.

Their direction is the same as it was last year when they were making trades. They can't bottom out because they've had no draft picks for the better part of this decade. They've stunk. Their reputation around the league is garbage. But over the last year under new management, they've been taking on some players, projects, assets, to rebuild themselves and get out of the no draft picks/cap hell that Billy King left them in. Taking on Dwight just goes along with that. It saves them money and gets them a little better. They won't be contenders, but it makes them better to where other FA in the future will say "Hey, this organization isn't a total shitshow anymore. Let's consider this". It also gives them more workable pieces to be part of trades either directly or as 3 and 4 teamers where they can get back assets. Players like Howard, Crabbe, Carroll, etc might not add up to much collectively, but they're the type of players other teams would be willing to take in other trades to make larger deals happen.

This is a good move for Brooklyn. I know you think every team should tear it down and tank until they get a top star draft pick and that is a great strategy. But its a great strategy in a vacuum. Not every franchise is equal with the same tools in front of them at all times. Different circumstances whether its previous cap situations, draft picks, reputation, fan apathy, etc etc play a role in what avenues franchises have in front of them. It's not a simple case of let's suck until we get Ben Simmons.

I believe that being on the wolves stunted any development he may have made. I actually believe that if Curry had gone to the wolves he would be out of the league as they would not have made the changes needed to fix his ankle issues.

Talk about journeyman Jackson, Massenburg, and Brown played on 12 different teams. Smith 11.

Are you saying a team that Smith, Brown, Jackson, and Massenburg all played for but not Howard?

Couldn't agree more especially with the last paragraph.

Like how often does a Ben Simmons/Lebron James/Kevin Durant type player comes around.

There is a reason teams like the Kings and Magic been bad for so long trying to rebuild strictly through the draft.

Yes, and from account Smith played on 12.

If the back injury didn't rob him of some of his athleticism he'd be HOF'er....he'll go down in history of the Hall of Very Good.

Man I live in Orlando and I was there when the Magic made it to the finals and Dwight was killing it. Let me tell you that man had the entire city of Orlando under his finger he could do whatever he wanted he probably could have built a home here and run for mayor after he retired. Idk if his camp built his ego and he felt that he deserved better and wanting a trade out was best but to go from having all that star power to being traded for a couple of 2nd round picks with teams looking to get rid of you with your home town team being one of them? As far as the reason why Charlotte got rid of him its kinda simple. You cant make the playoffs with him so whats the worst thing thats gonna happen by getting rid of him? Not make the playoffs? They didnt want to keep paying him and I dont think they want to keep paying Kemba

What a sad story

I think Kemba is the next to go. He can leave as a free agent next summer, and is he the kind of player the Hornets can give a max deal to? He isn't moving the needle enough there, so they will likely try to move him along with another contract for cap relief, picks, prospects.

Well with that paragraph I was mostly thinking of The Process and Sixers which I know tlance likes and I do as well. But that was different imo because the Sixers had been good, realized they needed a change, and stripped everything down. But teams like the Magic and Kings have been bad what seems like forever. There's nothing to strip down. And because you've sucked for so long, fans and potential players just don't care about you. That's why there's value in getting to respectability for a couple of years instead of staying in the lottery for 10 years hoping something finally comes your way, which is what the Nets will be doing if they continue to stink. That run Philly had before The Process sowed enough goodwill among the fan base that let Hinkie sell "The Process". If they had stunk for 8 years prior, fans would have never bought into it and the team would have lost a lot of revenue from lack of ticket and merch sales as fans say "fuck this"

He definitely lost something...HOF? Hard to say...I don't think he ever had a good face the basket game, or mid range shot, but he was so dominant in the paint he didn't need much of one.

Even with his current game, I thought he was wasted here in ATL. (one reason you saw a revival in Charlotte) You give me a big like him and I'm feeding him until he proves that I shouldn't.

In basketball you'll get potential super star players coming thru the draft maybe every 4 or 5 years...but every draft has players you can build around...I don't follow college BB much but I don't recall, Steph, Draymon, and Klay being viewed as stars) just gotta have some luck.

For instance ATL is going to get a very good player this week in the draft...but you can't make dumb moves like signing Kent Bazemore to huge contracts....that's taking one step forward and taking one step backwards.
