If the Spurs get Kyrie and change for Kawhi then the market has really dried up and there are serious questions about Kahwi's knee.

Irving, Brown, and a pick or 2 isn't that bad for Leonard.....

Brown is the sticking point for me.

If it were Kyrie and picks, it would be a no brainer because his deal is up at the same time as Kawhi's and the Spurs were Kyrie's preferred destination.

Wonder if it would still be the case without Kawhi?

Since they have Tatum, they do that move IMO....Leonard is way better than Brown. It's an upgrade. If Leonard is willing to stay that is.

But, would the Spurs want to help build another mega team in the WC?

I'd love to acquire Leonard but there's always that question to answer.

Who knows?

If they are rebuilding, they shouldn't much care. They might, but they shouldn't.

Scott Bordow:

The Suns will not, despite what you might have read elsewhere, trade the No. 1 pick for Kawhi Leonard. Not happening.

They were top 3 or 4 without 2 all star caliber players in their line up...

... next year they get those 2 all stars back, in addition to realistic growth from guys like Tatum, Brown and Ojeleye.

I completely disagree with you.

I love what they did in the playoffs but it's also possible they over-achieved without their best 2 players.

Adding them back next season could stunt the youngsters development. It's not just an easy add them back and they are all the sudden better.

Any dad's out there have plans for the day? Did the Fathers Day thing yesterday instead because it's supposed to be raining on & off all day.

BBQ at Laura's (my sister).

Allegedly, there was rain here but doesn't look like it.

If you're that high on players... Brown is the best player you name out of that bunch... with just as much upside as any of those other guys too.

The Lakers were a bad basketball team last season.

Yeah he is the best of the 3 but like I said when you are going through a rebuild picks are great dont get me wrong bht with Lonzo, Ingram and Kuzma you get 2 or 3 young guys on rookie deals, you already know what you are getting (havent seen tgeir potential but you know it’s high and they played in LA—-where the pressure on then to play at a high level is at its’ greatness. Point is you get picks in both deals but unless you think Brown will be a star/superstar you take that LA deal imo. I would ask for Ingram, Kuzma abd picks. I think Kuzma could be the best of them all

Fair enough.

My retort is still the same: the Celtics could sit on their thumb for the most part and still get significant improvement in the form of reasonable growth from multiple guys... Tatum, Brown, Rozier and Ojeleye all have ceilings to grow into.

The other part of the equation is match up... I'd argue the C's match up better against GS than they do against other top teams. The best defense in the NBA isn't sexy... but it's built for the playoffs.
I was more worried about the Warriors facing Boston than the Cavs, their defense gives the Ws fits

No real plans.

The only kid still home is my son. So, I'll hang with him for a bit today. The daughters are moved away, they'll all be calling and texting at different points during the day.

Gonna watch the Dodgers later on and cook something, probably ribs, in my smoker.
Fuck the Dodgers! :)

What do the Clippers have that the Spurs would want?

Tobias Harris and two lottery picks this year is the supposed bid.

That's not going to get it done.

The Celtics succeeded because they played great defense and were played cohesively.
Agreed.

If Smart leaves and Baynes leaves, that is going to hurt the team. Will having a healthy Kyrie and healthy Hayward offset that? Possibly. Possibly not.
Kyrie and Hayward are on a different plane than Smart and Baynes... but I'll address this.
  • I like Baynes. He's basketball smart and knows how to play team defense... his head often makes up for what he lacks in lateral quickness. I hope the C's retain him. But if they don't, I'm comforted with Daniel Theis coming back... he proved to be serviceable last season and should offset this loss.
  • Smart is a different matter. I love Smart... he is an unique player and this is certainly a loss that would be felt if it happened. On this front, though... I have decent hope the C's won't lose him next season. Smart is a RFA... and to pry him away from the C's a team is likely going to have to overspend. The way teams have been burned in recent years (the NY Knicks come to mind) overspending on non-star players in these sort of situations... I just doubt that happens. If you were a GM, would you overspend for Marcus Smart?

Which is not to say that the Celtics will be anything but a very good team next year. But for you to extrapolate that they will become legitimate challengers to defeat the Warriors is about the MOST optimistic take you can possibly have.
Again... adding 2 all stars... young players with another year of NBA work... they have a bedrock of defense... they match up well against GS...

... I don't think I'm crazy.
