That's also true. Trump threw gas over a flame that was going out because he was implused to hear loud cheers for him or something.

or something

Trump is very pro cop, pro veteran, pro military. He didn't say anything new everyone wasn't already thinking and feeling, and saying. He just agreed with them, and supported our police. The idea that his opinion was a publicity stunt, or perceived as bad in any way is partially why he won the election to begin with.

I'm not doubting he has those feelings (or at least has them just to win people over). Still what was the point right then and there though. If he had chimed in sooner when it was more of a hot button issue that's one thing, but it was so off-the-wall and worded in a way that he either wanted an applause, a distraction or just rambled considering it was something that was dying down and wasn't even really prompted by anything that night. I'm not going to defend the ways some of these players handled it, but at that point it probably was best if everyone had just left well enough alone for a bit.

Employers in the private sector have every right to limit free speech of it's employees while the employee is representing the employer, especially if that speech is of a controversial nature that can result in bad publicity. While wearing the uniform, an NFL player represents their team and the NFL, so these employers have every right to ban this kind of action.

Except the NFL doesn’t have any rules about kneeling during the anthem, even if you’re private sector you can’t just make up a rule about something like this out of the blue and then fine employees if they don’t follow it.

The players didn’t agree to this when they signed their contract and it’s not in the CBA meaning it’s not a rule that would hold up if they got sued.

As some have stated, keep the players in the lockerroom, or just don't play the anthem altogether. I thought about the telecast treating any of those kneeling players as they do about streakers, but social media will surely capture the guys protesting. Personally, they should do away with all this pro military shit as well. The whole 'support the troops/protect our freedom' angle is just silly....

While I ... don't agree with your views, the NFL has always branded itself as American Pie, Patriotism, etc for at the very least the SB era. That has evolved some, but the core of that has never quite changed.

It has not - it has turned itself in a propaganda tool (especially for the US military) post 9-11. Before that it was not more so than others.

1960 NFL logo ... pretty much the same as today's NFL logo. What does this logo remind you of? And btw .. American Conference - National Conference.

So if players on both teams kneel during the anthem, each would be charged with a 15 yard penalty. They would be offsetting penalties and the ball wouldn’t be moved.

You may be right but I don't think so. I am not sure that the CBA would be needed to be consulted if the NFL changed a rule, for example, 10 yard for off sides instead of 5 years. They are currently considering a rule change for leading with the head, that does not need CBA agreement.

As some have stated, keep the players in the lockerroom, or just don't play the anthem altogether.

This is not a solution. The league has been in business for over 50 years and did just fine the whole time until Colin Kaepernick decided to wage war on our police officers.

Are we just going to eliminate everything extreme liberals ruin? What happens when these guys then start protesting during the game, get rid of the games?

Millions of school kids have stood for the pledge of allegiance in school for hundreds of years without issue - but these adult players can't control themselves at work?

No. Keep the anthem. Get rid of the players who refuse to control themselves for the 3 whole hours they work in front of the public each week. They can kneel at practice of they need to.

Perhaps if the players had any semblance of a legitimate argument, or if such a large amount of them weren't such gigantic piles of shit themselves, they wouldn't have been met with such hostility. Start taking a knee against your fellow players that are beating women and breaking the law constantly. And oh yeah, prove that there's actually a major epidemic of police brutality in this country.

NFL games already have too many penalties... lets search for more things to give refs more TV time.

Easily rectified, those who kneel, ejected from the game with loss of pay. Do it twice, suspended for the season.
