I chase a little white ball around the course. Damn thing won't run in a straight line like I wish it would.
My idea of Tony being a top golfer is based off he was pretty damn good with out the practice time Pro Golfers get, how good would he be had he just played golf?

It really doesn't work that way and besides, a wealthy man with 5 months of the year off has plenty of time to practice. I don't know how well you play but if you're a hacker, I'm gonna kick your ass. The club champ at my club will kick my ass. The MA State amateur will kick his ass. The U.S. Amateur will kick his ass. The web.com champ will kick his ass. The PGA rookie of the year will kick his ass. Jordan Spieth will kick his ass.

The levels of the game are incredible. PGA players were ALL teen phenoms.

Legitimately qualifying and making a cut on the PGA tour would be a lofty enough goal for Tony and I'm doubting that. He is not going to become an established player even on the senior tour. I like the guy and wish him well but...

Romo was never you favorite, that's not saying you hated him or constantly asked to get rid of him, but you did pile more blame on him than I think he deserved.
Totally wrong. I criticized Romo when I thought he deserved it and any objective NFL fan saw that he often did. Many here couldn't accept any criticism of him and that led to a lot of drama. I mean there are still people on here and many other fans thinking we would be better off with him in 2018. That is asinine. He would be lucky to survive a practice let alone an NFL game. I also argued on Romo's behalf about the illusion of choking or not being a big game player and many other things with many Romo detractors over the years. And he was one of my favorites actually.

Exactly. People who don't play golf regularly don't understand the difference between varying levels of golfers. I would be surprised if Romo was the best golfer at his own club. I guess you can think of it like chess. I can be the best chess player you have ever met by a million miles and if I play a grand champion I will be crushed 100 times out of 100. Elite PGA tour golfers are amazing. Saying Romo could have been one of the top pros if he went right to golf is way off base IMHO.

I know a lot of fantastic golfers. Scratch golfers, golfers that regularly finish at or under par at "normal" courses. PGA tour events come to town and the courses change and these guys shoot the worst rounds of their years. I know personally a women who was on the LPGA tour. She was a golfer her whole life, had a college scholarship to play at a big school, put in years on the futures tour, she made the LPGA tour and won a tournament. She lost the ability to make putts (and even after losing that ability was probably 10 times the putter Romo is) and ended up caddying for someone else.

I thought he attempted to make the cut before while still playing football & didnt miss the cut by too much. (I am not a golfer)

More time on his hands, he could improve to making the cut I would assume. Not saying he will be significant if he does make the cut, but could see it as a possibility.
I think he came real close to qualifying once. But, don't confuse that with being a regular PGA golfer. 10,000 people a year attempt to qualify for the US Open and that doesn't include the bulk of PGA golfers who automatically qualify. In 2017 I don't think Romo made it out of the first round of his qualifying "bracket".

Bottom line he is probably a better golfer than anyone on this board and sure as hell is better than me. But, 4 days in a row in tough conditions where one stroke a day can be the difference between 10th and 30th place is another animal against the best in the World. It would be amazing if he ever qualifies for a US Open or gets a sponsors exemption invite to a real tour event. I'd be shocked if he made the cut if he did, but it would be fun to watch.

This I agree with, I'm just not going to say there is no way without seeing him play.

It'll bring some fans in, and Romo can play, but I doubt he hangs with the web.com guys.

He is too old now to be a great pro golfer. Golf is a young man's game. No way, he can complete with the Jordan Speiths, Dustin Johnson's at this point in his life. He could practice everyday 24/7 and still won't compete. You also have to have the talent as well to play at that elite level. He is a good golfer better then most, but to compete with the best of the best at his age, No way in hell.

Sure, wait as long as you need. He's not going to be a PGA tour caliber golfer...ever.

He is a rich 37 year old ex NFL player with multiple back & collar bone operations who has never played golf at the PGA tour level before.

I myself like to see predictions with at least a little risk.

I know that, I just said had he went straight to golf he could have been one of the top golfers.
Maybe in 13 years he'll tear up the senior league.

Yes, but in this case the age is not even the biggest part of it. He could never compete with these guys. It's like saying if a random division III QB practiced enough he could play for the Cowboys. Just doesn't work that way. Like you said. You need to have the talent as well.

Well by many accounts Romo had the talent, just not the playing time.

Will be fun to watch Romo just for the fun part
I chase the little round ball around the course and am a Lousy golfer at best
Tennison Public course in Dallas and Cedar Crest are my favorite courses. over 15 years ago my usual golf buddy and I were playing Tennison in the summer we played in the heat because it saved 10 bucks in green fees and we could play as 2some instead of foursome because the course was pretty empty. On the second 9 the course Marshall asked if a 3rd could tag along after getting cold drinks in the clubhouse.
Lee was a awesome golfer, he was a little older than us but super nice with tips for my buddy and me. It took till the 14th hole before it finally clicked we were playing with Lee Trevino. The Course Marshal came and got him after 16 because his party finally arrived. We finished the round on cloud 9. You never know who you might run into on a golf course. Hell nobody believes us to this day but it happened.

Good luck to Tony but he knows his paycheck is now in the booth not on the football field or the golf course

It would not surprise me one bit if Romo picks up a couple of major titles in the next 20 years

I mean he is almost as good as a healthy Tiger Woods when Tiger was his age.

Tony will will make his PGA debut March 22 in the Dominican Republic.

Romo gets exemption for PGA Tour debut

Could Romo envision a second career as a professional golfer?

"You never know how good you are until you go play and perform, and ultimately, the odds going against these guys are not great. I think we all know that," Romo said. "But I think that's what makes it really fun and enjoyable, and I also think the challenge that's presented is what a competitor really wants.
According to Tiger Woods Romo has the kind of game that points to success in the PGA.
