lets say if alex get 7-10 wins a year thats the same as kirk but once again this was not about getting a better qb it was about getting the best qb we can because both parties new kirk was gone

If its not about getting better, its a bad move period.

One party never wanted to sign Kirk long term, that's what this move was about.

I hope it works, but I don't want to hear excuses if we are still a 7-9 or worse team with Smith.

You don't know what KC will sign for so I think it will be more than a few million dollars. The 3rd round pick is a wash b/c we will get an extra 3rd round pick in 2019. Sure Fuller is a loss but we draft Moreau last year. Alex Smith will gives us the same productivity or more for lesser money than Cousins. What if Cousins signs for over 30m per season. Does it change things?

first off a 3rd round isnt a given it depends on what we do in FA . 2nd we got older and we still have a guy who cant carry a team (one of the beefs about KC ) we stand to lose 3 of our top defenders BB brown and now fuller with no proven replacements plus the depth took a serious hit . the money we paid smith was the money we could have paid KC in 2015 . but at least we will be 7-9 again but it will cost less . and by the way the cap savings didnt really turn out either

Well, unless there's a bidding war, which I suspect will happen for Kirk, his market price just dropped with the reported Smith deal. Agree or disagree with the notion that they are similar players, give or take a million or two because of his birthdate, that deal set the market for a guy like Cousins.

No it didn't. Cle will pay 30M per year for Cousins in FA. The bidding war will be with the Jets and Browns. KC will get vastly overpaid. The Skins did not want to pay KC that type of money that is why the trade was made. It made sense b/c the Skins weren't going to sign him long term at KC asking price.

This response does not shock me at all.

But as usual you are taking your assumptions as if they were fact written in stone.

1. We don't know what Cousins will sign for, but more importantly we don't know what his cap number will be where ever he signs. If he signs for $30M on average, but the cap hit comes out to be less than what we are spending on Smith was it still a great trade??

2. You are assuming Maroue can step in and start because he was drafted last year. Because until yesterday all indications were that Fuller was going to start.

3. You are assuming we will get a 3rd round comp pick which some how equates to a wash. But one, that pick doesn't come until next year, and two there is no guarantee it will be a 3rd rounder. What if its a 4th round comp pick, or a 5th. What if Bruce goes and signs 3 big ticket FA's with the cap space we saved and we get no comp pick??

4. Lastly, we just traded for a 34 year old QB because the front office did everything in their power to ensure we wouldn't keep the 30 year old QB we had.

1. KC is going to get his 30m per year average in Free agency. Why get into a bidding war for a guy who the organization wasn't sold on? What if the Skins waited until FA and KC spites them and signs with another team for less money? Then we are shit out of luck. KC has too much leverage. Now we had a good QB and don't have to spend huge money to get him.

2. Sure its an assumption but Fuller wasn't the best CB in the league. Yes he was good in the slot but certainly not untradeable. Moreaus upside is a lot higher.

3. True but I still think it will be a third b/c of the deal KC is going to land.

4. We traded for Smith to give us insurance that we will have a good QB next year no matter what happened in FA or the draft. Kc had too much leverage. It was a safe move. I like it.

it was a safe move b/c you don't know if KC would of signed here long term in FA. Bree and Fuller are not our top defenders on our team. I think Brown will be retained b/c of this trade. Forget 2015 we had no leverage going into FA this year. This was a safe move that still makes us competitive at the QB position.

the safe move would have been to sign a FA qb and not give up draft capitol or a young cheap cb . moreau hasnt done anything yet but get beat like a drum . brown wants 11 mil and BB wants top 5 cb money

And what FA qb would that be? Alex Smith is worth more than Fuller considering our situation going into FA. Again, we had no leverage going into FA and we still got a top QB in Smith. The cost was Fuller and a 3rd. Considering the situation we were in its not bad at all.

You are not comprehending that the SKins were not going to meet KC's asking price at probably almost 30m per season. So this was the fall back plan. Give me Alex Smith all day long at the expense of Fuller. Are you really comparing the two?

At best we got even, but older at QB for a few dollars less.

We also got worse on Defense.

But at least we got rid of Cousins.

All hail winning off the field!!!

more than even. more than a few dollars. There should be a 6m per season difference between KC and Smith. The defense will be upgraded through the draft and FA. Why is Fuller being compared to Darrell Green? lol Why is Fuller worth more to this team than Alex Smith? wow.

Fuller was young and Improving.

Smith is 34 and JUST had the best season of his career.. which usually leads to the down slide.

Cousins was entering his prime, Smith likely just peaked.

Smith will likely count $20M against our cap. Kirk will probably cost between $24-27M where ever he goes.

But that $4M in cap space is going to put us over the top right??

We already won off the field. I expect no excuse making from you if we are not winning handily ON the field. Smith better carry the team.

So you are saying Smith cant win or improve at 34? that is bulllshit. KC will cost more towards 28-30M against the cap wherever he goes. He might take less to go to Denver of Jax if he wants to win. He wasn't going to give us a discount at all. Heck He might not even singed with us if we offered a huge deal. That was the risk going in. Now we don't have to worry. Once again safe move, no risk. Do you understand that??? This Fuller is not replaceable crap is already getting old. cmon now.

IM saying that you and others have been feeding us a steady diet of Bullshit on how damn near any one could do better than Cousins in THIS system.

So if Smith does not in act win us the Division and at least challenge for NFC Champs, your only saving grace will be if Cousins is on a squad that does much much worse.

And the fact is, once again they didn't even bother to offer Cousins a deal. So your he wouldn't have signed in any case is just your way of trying to justify what is looking like a bad trade.

Alex Smith’s career...

First three seasons were so bad, he entered training camp in a battle with Shaun Hill and JT O’Sullivan.

In his first four seasons, he had four OC, three of those were fired.

In 2009, he then lost the training camp battle to Shaun Hill.

In 2010, he entered a season with the same OC for the firs time in consecutive years. Rays was then fired after five games. At one point in 2010, the miners were starting Troy Smith over Alex Smith.

In 2012, he lost his job to Kap.

He did much better with KC where he had a great running game and defense. He has neither in DC.

wait a minute. where did you get that bullshit? I like d KC I don't think he is worth the money that he will be getting. Smith will be just as good or better in this system. That is my prediction. The Skins knew they couldnt resign KC at his number. Why bother offering?

Plus what about the signing of Dunbar? You left him out of the conversation. Norman, Dunbar, Moreau, and Hosley. I don't see a real hole there. Sure they could add a guy but I don't see a high draft pick or big time FA. At pick #13 im looking at the FSU safety right now.

Waffle much??

YOu have made Kirk out to be the spawn of Satan because he didn't counter offer.

But the fact that the Skins didn't even bother to offer sits well with you?? Because you liked Cousins, but he isn't worth what he will get paid.. got it.

no. you made that bullshit up. I was mad KC didn't counter. yes. I always said that KC isn't worth the money he was getting. We couldn't wait to offer in FA it was too much risk. You just don't understand that. This is a great safe move that guaranteed us a good QB. But you are mad b/c we game up Fuller? got it. lol

They didn't HAVE to wait to make him an offer until free agency. They own his rights UNTIL March 14 and were free to negotiate with him. They never even tried.

As far as me being mad... I of all people expected them to find some new and exciting way to do what they have done the past 20 years... put lipstick on the pig and convince people like you... this time it will work.
