Yep, Defense put UW in a huge hole early. Pettis would have never been put in that position if Browning could complete a pass before that play.

They didn't play 'safe'. That would mean they were in prevent defense, didn't play with any aggressive style, etc. They tried, they just looked out of sync and were out played particularly on the line. You do have to give PSU a lot of credit. McSorley made some phenomenal throws and really took that game on his back. Even when there was some pressure he responded quite well and just played better than that defense did.
