He dealt the MVP without getting any of the teams top prospects while still eating part of the deal, it's a joke. If that's the best you can do don't trade his ass. Maybe him sitting around another year on a crappy team will make Stanton more accepting of a trade to teams not in the final 4 of the postseason.

This.

Unfortunately for the Marlins, it looks like everyone knew they didn't have the leverage they probably ought to have when trading a guy like Stanton. Keeping him when you're losing 50M a year is not that enticing an option if you're ownership. It's kind of a joke- but that's what happens when the Marlins get run the way they have been.

Back in the day Bowie Kuhn vetoed a trade that would have sent Vida Blue to the Big Red Machine, citing "the best interest of baseball." I wonder if American pro sports will be their own executioner as all the stars in the various games end up in big markets. At least the NFL seems to have this issue in hand. The NBA and MLB however has an issue IMHO. If all the stars are in NY, LA, Boston, Chicago...how do you inspire new fans?

Except this isn't true lol. There are plenty of stars in baseball that doesn't play in NY, LA, Boston, and Chicago.

You can actually make a great case that Houston has the most stars on one team in baseball

This is true, but it's also true not every team has the capacity to spend even up to the luxury tax, for whatever reason be it a cheap owner or they lose money if they do. Whatever the case, there's a very different standard team to team- I don't blame people for getting upset or annoyed by it. Baseball for a while now has kind of self-corrected itself on this so it hasn't been the issue it could be, but I am a bit concerned.

we needed PITCHERS dumazzzes... scoring runs was not the problem, relievers mot problem... starters PROBLEM!!!! what the.......

This move was straight Steinbrenner (the original one), take on a big star's huge deal. And you are still bitching. I'm sure Stanton's 65 HRs in Yankee Stadium won't help you guys win more ballgames LOL

And just think about adding Manny Machado next season.Yikes!

Won't happen, they can barely fit in Stanton's deal. Harper and Machado will sign elsewhere....Boston probably gets one.

MLB needs to stop letting brokeass motherfuckers own teams.

If you can't afford payroll, you prolly should buy a AAA Franchise instead.

Good for the Yanks that they installed their own to run a Minor League Affliate out of North Havana.

He's a FA. They will likely try to bring him back though on a 1 or 2 yr deal IMO

Marlins should be ashamed of themselves. They were the ones to sign this deal in the first place. I hope they draw 2,000/game. They would deserve that.

Houston is the 4th biggest metro. Baseball trends are actually closely following economic trends as a whole with the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Stros all having well run teams. If you're a star, you'll be 10x more famous as a Yankee than a Brewer or a Mariner.

It might be a parity issue but it's not even remotely close to what the NBA has to deal with. The NBA has created a culture where rings mean everything and there are just too many teams for that.

1 ring to the last team 2 bashers played together, and both were on roids

all the yankees needed imo was a solid starter or 2, and maturity to win ring, not a freak! and speaking of him, i never saw the kid play, his swing is weird. no follow through. what is this kid on that he's hittin so many dingers? and did they get rid of castro? thats a big mistake! changed whole dynamic of team with this transaction. awww wtf...

That Yankees team is that much better with this deal. Stanton, Judge and Sanchez in the same lineup could be good for at least 100 wins between them. As to the Marlins, wow, what a poor package for one of the top players available this off season they could have done better.

You realize they still have all of their top prospects right? They can still land a starting pitcher.
