Did the Yankees pull Jeter's balls out of the fire for screwing up the handling of the Stanton trade....or was this trade a set up to begin with? I hate 'conspiracy theories', but I can see people seeing some collusion involved between Jeter and Yankee front office (with Joe Torre watching the inmates???)

So Jeter is screwing over the team he now works for to help the team he used to play for? What a piece of shit.

Not his fault stanton had a full no trade clause. Had deals completed with the Giants and Cards before even thinking about the yankees

He had deals completed with 2 teams. Stanton said no.

He dealt the MVP without getting any of the teams top prospects while still eating part of the deal, it's a joke. If that's the best you can do don't trade his ass. Maybe him sitting around another year on a crappy team will make Stanton more accepting of a trade to teams not in the final 4 of the postseason.

And now we can pretty much forget about Bryce Harper to the Yankees. He'll be a Cub.

well unless Jeter jumps ships and goes to the Nationals

that's a great deal for the Yanks and a terrible one for the Marlins. The only thing this accomplishes is reducing payroll. This does little to improve the future of the franchise and they're trading their most marketable player. They would have been much better holding onto him and trying to shed payroll elsewhere IMO.

The collusion complaints are kind of dumb though. I think this is just sheer incompetence.

I just read Jeter sold his share in the Marlins and is accepting a front Office job for the Yanks...

Giancarlo Stanton - OF - Marlins
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins will receive Starlin Castro, Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers in the Giancarlo Stanton trade.

As expected, with the Yankees taking on most of Stanton's salary, the Marlins aren't getting much in the way of prospects. Guzman, 21, is a live arm who came to the Yankees in the deal that sent Brian McCann to the Astros. He went 5-3 with a 2.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 88/18 K/BB ratio over 66 2/3 innings in 13 starts at Low-A Staten Island in 2017. Devers, who is the cousin of Red Sox' third baseman Rafael Devers, is an 18-year-old shortstop who slashed .245/.336/.342 in Rookie Ball last season.

Giancarlo Stanton - OF - Marlins
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Yankees will take on $265 million of the $295 million remaining on Giancarlo Stanton's contract.

There have been a few different numbers floating around this morning, but any way you slice it that's a massive amount of money for any club to take on. That means the Marlins will only be left on the hook for $30 million, but it is also likely to diminish the quality of prospects that they receive in return.

The least the Yankees can do now is adjust their dimensions to appropriate Major League levels.

And continue to lose money? The team supposedly lost $50 million last year, so it was a trade they felt they needed to make this year financially. Combine that with Stanton being picky on who he goes to (already turned down 2 teams), Yankees had all the leverage.
