I dont question if five QBs could go in the first round.

I have said the same thing about the 2018 QB's that 5 could go in the first round and you guys pounced on me. I would compare Mayfield to Drew Brees. Small guy but can make every throw. Even if Kc gets a long term deal from us I would not rule out drafting Mayfield. If we are picking late in the first round in 2018 like from 20 on, I would select Mayfield b/c you have that 5th year option for him like all first round picks. So our QB situation would be set for at least the next 5 years.

we all know that QBs get hyped up around draft time. What IF Brees and Big Ben retires? Im just saying there are going to be a lot of QB's selected next year. Mayfield might not even make it to the 2nd round.

It doesn't really matter. Mayfield might not make it to the second but it doesn't matter about Ben and Brees.

Again, you still don't know who will stay.

This can't be done @Dean, because Sty said this a couple of years ago and was summarily informed that you don't draft QB's in the first round, and sit them by some and that McCoy was OK as the backup, why upgrade? by others.

Cant speak for others. But my thought is you cant do it because of the team that we are and the owner we have. Not to mention team history at the position.

You cant burn a first rounder for the simple purpose of creating a QB controversy in the same year you sig Cousins long term. Just like you really couldnt draft Watson this past off season unless you were planning to torpedo the coach and the QB you signed to the franchise tag.


At the end of the day, this teams ownership and fan base are NOT stable enough to be able to handle options. Because options in DC are nothing more than another controversy waiting to happen. So unless or until we become a team where one bad game, or a slow start to the season isnt going to garner posts or news articles entertaining benching the starter because we lost the season opener. At the end of the day, if you give Dan and Bruce options at the QB position, you can bet they will manage to fuck it up and have half the fan base singing their praise for doing it.

So with 2018 a supposed bumper crop of franchise to elite QBs in the draft.... Got to wonder why two of the teams most in need of QB, and likely to pick high in the draft, either traded or tried to trade for Qbs that will cost them $20m or more a season once resigned??

Is it possible the league is not as sold on the given greatness of this coming class as some fans are??

What the hell does the combine have to do with making a determination of a good QB? It just proves that a QB can run or pass a ball well & handle some interview questions (& in several cases the QBs will only perform the interview part). By your logic RG3 should be in the HOF by now. The combine is highly overrated as a means of finding NFL talent & especially at QB.
