Dolphins release Maxwell ... Seattle should take a look, he fit in well here, he's struggled as of late but being only 29 he's in his prime, and you can never have enough depth at corner... He knows our system well also...

Maybe the Hawks will look at him if Lane keeps whining about being benched, but he'd be taking Lane's role if they signed him and he might decide to wait to see if he can get on a team that needs him on the field instead of the bench even if the Hawks did show interest.

Let's see....Sherm, Shaq Griffin, Coleman, Lane, and Shead when he comes back is 5. You also have Thorpe. Seems like another transaction would have to happen to make room for Maxwell, but yesterday I did hear the afternoon guys on 710 talking about the chances of Lane being traded by next week's deadline.

It didn't really work to bring BB back, but he was a few years older and battling injuries. It probably could work for Maxwell, but I hope it wouldn't be at the cost of Griffin's development.

Hawks are deep at CB so really no need for him here. He wouldn't really add a lot of talent when looking at the increase in spending at CB to have him. Hawks look to be set at CB with some talent and young players that just need time to maybe become a star ( Griffin ). Would Hate to have that time taken away at the expense of another players maturation.

CB/FS/SS and somewhat DT are not needs, DE had a need because of the loss of Avril. Oline is always a need lol.

I agree. That whiny bitch Lane NEEDS TO BE TRADED. He is a horrible CB who constantly gets beat with a 5 yard pass because he goves up too much cushion

There arent any injuries to the CB position and we are getting shead back pretty soon. The thing is that Maxwell has been missing games with the dolphins due to injury with his foot and hamstring so I dont see where he could really help us out.

Maxwell is a classic case of a player chasing the big contract I get we all want the money but what a lot of players I feel dont see is that it is very hard to leave one system or scheme, go to another and perform at the same level. They can sign the big contract but if the player fails to meet expectations then he will be cut and not see all that money. If I were a player I would think about staying with the team that got me my fame and take a little less because playing on a big contract can be a huge target when the salary cap is tight and they feel your not worth the investment

We no longer need Maxie. With Shead coming back, I say we are fine at DB.

Nah, let Shead/Shaq/Coleman continue to get reps. Younger, hungrier, and they are all playing good (well Shead was when he was healthy).

Our defense is about as good as our 2013 team. The reason we're not tearing it up is the RB situation is not as good and the O-Line is far worse.

If we were somehow able to trade Lane for someone on the line or a draft pick then I say go after Maxwell. If Lane stays there's no need to add another CB.

At this point, is it wise to shake up the OL? Not that it's "good", but we are now 6 games in. Can you really plug a new guy in there now and improve just because that 1 player may be more talented than the incumbent? Unless we are bringing in a generational type talent, I think it could be a risk.

You make a valid point. In addition, I read this morning that according to PFF the Hawks line is considered a top 10 O-line  Not sure if thats accurate, but PFF seems to be the baseline to football statistics.

At any rate, my point was more in line with rather or not Max should be added. If we were to add to the O-line I would want either a legit LT or just some depth if it means shedding Lanes contract. Then if theres enough space we add Max for depth, but chances are non of this happens.

Look at the financials, it only makes sense that the OL has performed so poorly as of late.
In `13 Kam, Sherm, ET, Wags, Wright, Russell, and maybe a few more had not arrived at their 2nd contract yet. To keep all of those guys, major concessions had to be made, the OL being the obvious one.

But that defense didn't perform poorly despite the financials, with all those guys on rookie contracts and most of them lower round picks. 2 of the 5 starters (still including Joeckel) on this OL make good money. The other 3 are a 1st rounder, 3rd rounder, and a recent FA signing (Oboushi). That's no small investment.

I have seen other people post this and have looked for these rankings but have not found them. People say the Hawks oline was graded as a top 10 oline the last 2 games by PFF in many places but i can't find a damn thing. Someone want to share this link or article if they can find it please? or is it "fake news"? lol

oops that was a power ranking ... still can't find it.

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to find metrics to apply to something so subjective as evaluating OL play. Top 10 definitely seems high, but I do think it's improved a lot since week 1. They are generally no longer allowing free runners on the QB, and it's been a while since it's made JAG type DLs look like legendary talents. The sacks have tapered as well. Get some holes going for the ground game, and "mediocre" could be on the horizon.

Oh totally get it... all those guys were super cheap and performing about the same level (which isn't a bad thing) as they are now while getting paid a shit ton more. I'm just stating the reason why we're no longer considered elite.

We hit on a ridiculous amount of defenders and Russell who were super cheap. What we've failed to hit on is O-Lineman in the draft (who are essentially cheap for a few years)... and I put that on Cable and our O-Line scouting department.

Heh, there's some consternation now.

Either PFF isn't all that, or else Cable isn't as incompetent as some have been saying.
