Do people usually refer to stories they deem credible and newsworthy as "clickbait?"
No they don't. But, you're an asshole, so I can't pretend to know what you are thinking.

Lol

Poor Hu and the Mets

Mets owners were overheard as stating that Cora was "a dog-gone fart-blossom, and not a serious candidate in the first place. Because he's haunted. Yeah."

montreal is getting a team.

i dunno, its got some good points and bad points to it.

Maybe.

A good friend of mine is works at a high level in the global heavy construction market. His opinion a couple of years ago was that Montreal's infrastructure was so incredibly bad that he didn't think MLB would want any part of it until they correct that. Maybe they've made progress. I haven't discussed it with him recently.

Personally, I'd be shocked if they did away with the AL and NL. Not saying it won't happen; I've been shocked before.

Feel like we've had this discussion before...Montreal has been in bad shape ever since they hosted the Olympics.

Here's a really cool article that is somewhat related, about old Olympic Stadium and a replacement that was never built:

The Forgotten Story of ... the world's best baseball stadium – that was never built

Also, I would like to point out that this is the second MLB Daily Thread during the MLB playoffs that @redseat has started and led with a non-baseball story. The first one wasn't even about sports.

@Shaggy, anyway we can get his thread-making privileges revoked over here?

From the article, this is very interesting:

Carelli found it odd that when Loria assumed control of the team in 1999 that he only attended one meeting about the new park, but shook off any feelings of concern. The project kept moving forward until 2002, when the plans were 75% complete. Then one day he got a call. The stadium was off. Quebec premier Lucien Bouchard did not want to spend any public money – no matter how small – for a new stadium when the old Olympic Stadium was still being paid off. Labatt Park would never be built.

The Montreal Olympics were in 1976. in 2002, they were STILL paying for the old stadium, and probably a lot of other things that they built for the games. It effectively bankrupted that city for 40 years.

Last clip from the article, and then you need to read it your damn selves:

The ball park was going to be a happy place, built for the super low sum of $200m.

$200 million. Wow. Olympic stadium cost over $770 million back in the mid-1970's

Shewt, I'm rolling now and can't stop...more on Olympic Stadium:

  • Well over its original budget, the stadium ended up costing $770 million to construct. By 2006, the final cost had risen to $1.47 billion when calculating in repairs, modifications and interest paid out. It took 30 years to finally pay off the cost, leading to its nickname of "The Big Owe" (a play on "The Big O").[73]

Canadian Dumbassery to rival our American Dumbassery.

I understand other recent host cities for the Olympics have had similar issues with overpriced structures, many of which were one-time use. Why would anyone ever want to host the games again?

they were never given a chance. outdated facilities (didnt a chunk of the upper tier fall off once in a game?)

but the expos were beloved up there. eric gagne talked about how it was second only to the habs in eastern canada for popularity.
