Here's a definite positive. All teams within a division would have the same schedule. So Dirt won't be able to bitch.

Oh wait, of course he will because he'll be pissed that the Red Sox play a team in September as opposed to July. Scratch that.

They could do something similar now but for some unknown reason choose not to.


Play 18 games against the 4 other teams in your division. 9 home/9 away. All 3 game series. 4*18 = 72

Play 6 games against every other team in your league out side the division. 3 home/3 away. 10*6 = 60

Play 6 games against one division in the NL (rotating). 3 home/3 away. 10*3 = 30

For a total of 162 games.

Get rid of the rivalry interleague games until the rotation happens (e.g. Mets v. Yankees once every 3 years). While some of those rivalries are good (Chicago v. Chicago, New York v. New York, STL v. KC), you'll still get them just not as often.

The ONLY drawback is makes the tiebreaker in the division more difficult but that's got to be a fairly rare occurrence, i.e. Yankees v. Red Sox go 9-9 AND tie for the division at the end of the season or tie for a wildcard spot. That's not going to happen too often.
