Thanks Shapiro.

He did some good things, and I know he's well regarded, but when they announced he was headed to Toronto, I was not heartbroken. I was a little concerned that his team was staying in place in Cleveland and just getting promotions, but I gotta say, I'm TOTALLY fine with that now.

What do you have to say about that, Danny? @Bloody Brian Burke

Shapiro did weasle some decent players for mediocre/aging players. I'll give him that

Ben Broussard for Shin-Soo Choo

Einar Diaz and Ryan Drese for Travis Hafner

Eduardo Perez for Asdrubal Cabrera

Casey Blake for Carlos Santana

Drafting was pretty bad to say the least though

Mark Shapiro's Drafts: An "Objective" Analysis

Not So Hot In Cleveland: So where did Cleveland end up in this ranking? 9th of 11th. Slightly behind the Marlins and barely ahead of Seattle (KC was last). Shaprio's drafts produced only 8.79% of players to make The Show, had a respectable WAR drafted of 93.4, but only 23 players with meaningful service time. Finally, Cleveland drafted six award worthy seasons. On average, 10.2% percent of players drafted played in a major league game, and of the 500 players typically drafted, 27 would give you a good run of games played in.

Tim Lincecum and the Flaw in the Method: However, there is a statistical outlier that needs to be addressed. Included in Cleveland's draft is Tim Lincecum, who accounts for all the award seasons and a good chunk of WAR. As he didn't sign and re-entered the next year, if you disregard his contribution, Cleveland's slightly bad drafts become a whole lot worse. They would be the only team with exactly zero Awards seasons drafted. Not one All-Star, no Gold Gloves. Nada. Zero. Zip. Their WAR would drop by 23.9 putting them at 69.9 (in front of only Seattle at 68.2 and Miami at 59.5). As a result, their final standing would put them in dead last.

He's got skin in the game. I've known @Captain for a LONG time, and he's one of my better "friends" I've made on the internets, and an expert ballbuster and hilarious dude. Knew him back on FanNation, and he's still in our FanNation fantasy baseball league.

Now, as far as WTF is wrong with him, it's a long list. For starters, he's a depraved balsero who spends his weekends dressed up as a clown so that he can go around and scare the fuck out of unsuspecting women and children. He's not to be trifled with, though. Here's a pic of the refrigerator in his basement:

He is one known to end the fantasy baseball season for many people, all while dressed as a clown.

Sorry, Ididn't know he was a friend. I saw 20 posts and thought ... we have enough stupidity on this thread, besides the only ones who should be giving the Indians a hard time are Twins, Royals, White Sox and of course Tigers (or anyone who is in the playoffs against them).

those were very good trades. The four of them combined for over 90 WAR as Indians and had some very good seasons, especially Choo and Hafner.

took them a while to fix the pitching. Indians had some horrendous pitching and defense for a while, especially after Lee and Sabathia were traded.

He and Atkins were hamstrung by the fact the Jays suddenly got good just as he was announced as president. They really had no choice over the last two seasons but to at least look like they were going to try and contend (and it worked last year, they did make the ALCS after all) despite the fact that having the oldest roster in the majors must be eating him alive.

I said in these forums last fall he should take the opportunity of Bautista and Edwin's FA status to flip the older parts (Happ, Estrada, any of the position players not named Donaldson and maybe even Donaldson) and look to contend again in 18 or 19. My guess is Shatkins may have even planned to do so but ownership liked being perched atop the AL attendance board and the TV ratings weren’t hurting either so they decided to give it another spin.

Ask me again after this off-season. They have a lot of work to do to set things right again.

I am working under the assumption that every poster here is actually doug. I have always felt doug is a true 'idiot savant'. (With an emphasis on the former, of course)

Detroit's really not that bad of a city if you ignore all the problems it has. But who knows, maybe's it's changed from when I lived there more than 20 years ago?

I guess you're right. If you ignore all the problems it has and take them out of the equation, you're left with one lovely cul de sac and a TGI Friday's. That's sufficient.

I was born here and lived here all my life ... I'm good with my city. We're a far cry from perfect and if you don't like it - feel free to stay the fuck out. I like my teams, not matter how shitty they may be and I can be respectful of our foes without sounding like a whiny little twat.
