political thread ???? should we have one ???

over the last few day things have happened in this nation . some good people feel that there should be some leeway on politics here and other good people feel we should stick to football stuff and leave this forum as an escape from reality if you will .

i can see both points of view as being legitimate but that leaves me in a bit of a pickle . i have engaged in politics on this board however as a moderator i have to balance that with the needs of the posters who dont want politics on the forum . i have only recently started harping on it because i have moved from my positions of engaging in politics here to wanting the escape from it .

i tell you these things so all parties know where i stand and have stood on this issue . its only fair that i do .

but that leaves me with trying to come up with a solution that fits everyones needs . my best solution is to have a thread , (stuck ) that deals with todays issues (politics ) . i dont know what to call it simply the political thread or maybe Our world Today or go funny and call it the redskins fake news thread . i need it though to be known as the place where politics are discussed

so everyone knows i would enforce it pretty tightly with the exception of the name debate thread where some leeway might need to be given . also know that a poster had a signature on his account that was political in nature and i asked him to change it . know that i will PM and let him keep it up if we have the thread . . any debates about said signature would have to be debated on the political thread

i expect if it is decided to do this that the same rules apply to everything else . my first action is to move the offending thread to the political one . next would be deleting it if someone is just being a jackwagon , and then asking for a ban . most people are cool with me moving it and deleting it would be extreme or in some cases moving it would make no sense (rare)

now my personal feelings are we shouldnt do politics here . i dont want good posters leaving or being run off because they dont want politics in redskins football threads . however that doesnt mean i wont support a thread for politics and defend it "right " to be on the forum . understand though that if that can of worms is opened that all hell can break lose if we dont respect each other and call people names ETC (which I have been guilty of as well ) . passions will run high and things said that are hateful or offending to some people

think about this long and hard and let me know what you guys want . i am going to vote for it so you know even with my reservations to it . i appreciate your feed back and give me and up or down vote so i can see what the consensus is

Can't wait for the regular season so that we can talk about things other than politics, Cousins' contract & other assorted BS. It will be very enjoyable to talk about actual plays, results, etc - hopefully a fair amt goes in the Redskins favor.

Members are going to overreact and get offended by misunderstandings and opinions.
This whole idea of creating another thread appears to have originated from an outside member who some questioned whether had legit intentions even posting here.

I briefly saw the signature of that pitt guy and although it didn't appear to be offensive --
what was its purpose, intent and overall goal to those that would see it?
was it funny, malicious, racially insensitive or a wake up call to things that need to be changed.
why weren't other people included with other types of issues.
I only have a small bit of info, so I can't get offended without asking, and frankly I may not care --
but ...you can almost expect lots of people to get offended even with some of the post in THIS thread.

i am not taking anything as an attack . i was reaching out to you because you expressed a concern and i wanted to assure you your concern would be taken into consideration

yes i jumped on it early as i do with most that i see . some protest a little so yes i do get the last word on it in order to stop it , no i have not been 100% consistent either or even fair by letting someone get the last word on an issue

again people have asked me to put a lid on it , and some of it me personally for participating in it . it is valid and as a moderator i should have done the job better in this area .

i cant change my mistakes but i can try not to make the same ones again . so if the people want a political thread i will support and enforce it , if they do not i will enforce no politics on the board as it is now . there is a political forum and i have to try to address the wants of everyone . i am not having good posters leave because they dont want the politics on here . and since there is a political forum here i lean to going with their interests on this issue

we are taking a huge gamble here allowing this to be here even in a thread of its own because hurt feelings dont stay in one thread , they bleed over . i wont delete that thread without input from the people but once the jeanie is out of the bottle , its out

It is cool but I had already said I don't see a need for a political thread here.

Like I said, my only problem with you jumping in there is the timing. I do see a tie in to a Redskins related political issue. Believe me, sometimes I know I need to be reigned in and I appreciate it. Believe it or not, I value the opinion of most of the posters in here.

You shouldn't delete that thread because it IS Redskins related. It just so happens to be political by its very nature. Seriously, if people can't take that one thread, as long as it stays on point, then I don't think they are a good poster. Sorry.
