We have had Darvish and Hamel, two darn good pitchers and look where we are in the standings. We still need this kind of pitching but it appears there is more than pitching that got us where we are. Perhaps we need to take a step backward and seriously do some evaluating. We know about the bull pen. How about ba,obp and ops. Seems we suffered a lot with risp. Home run dependency won't get it done alone. Lot to consider imo.

Yeah I didn't think I'd see the day where I said that Texas' issue was hitting, not pitching. We have average pitching and below average hitting. We have a lot of guys that want the HR ball but can't play station to station baseball. No idea who our hitting coach is, but need a new one. This entire year we have been waiting for "our guys to put it together and get hot" and they just can't. Some of that is the age and type of players we have, some of it is just not good contact hitters.

And really, none of this has anything to do with our hitting coach (Anthony Iapoce). Not disagreeing with your point of, perhaps we need a new HC. And I've got more than a few concerns our pitching coach as well.

Perhaps. I'm just looking for any answers as to how we got this bad. Having an all or nothing hitter isn't a bad thing, but having 9 of them is.

We need guys who can hit for average and we need guys who can hit HRs. It wouldn't hurt to have a few who could do both actually. Bullpens are always going to be volatile, but it may be time to change our philosophy about not spending much on the pen. Most of all we have to start developing some starting pitching.

I would give serious thought to any regular player who can't hit for a .200 avg. This will not do much for the success of the team. Singles often count as well as HR's. I'd rather have Elvis at the plate with a runner ISP than Gallo or Napoli.

With all of the competition that we have I wouldn't count on it either, but then I didn't count on it a few years back and we got him so it is certainly feasible. I wouldn't give us any less of a chance than any other team as long as we are willing to give an AAV of somewhere north of $25 million. If we are competitive in what we offer him then we have just as good of a chance as anyone and maybe more than some.

We are past the point of being able to use prospects to pay for ace caliber pitchers and we haven't been able to grow our own. We have not had any success in the past signing free agent top quality pitching, but with our history with Darvish that might help us have a greater chance this time. In other words, we are kind of in a desperate situation so I look for us to be competitive.
