So, now that Bob Stoops retired that makes Kirk Ferentz the most tenured coach in College Football??

Stoops was more tenured than Ferentz by one day. How crazy is that?

People can mock Ferentz and he deserves some of it but he took a moribund program that Hayden left in shambles and has 5 top 10 national finishes in the last 15 years and has produced an Outland winner, a Mackey winner, a Lombardi winner, a Doak Walker winner, a Groza winner, an Obrien winner and has won B10 and national coach of the year multiple times . If he wasn't so conservative he'd have more wins but he's the best coach in Iowa history imo passing even the legendary Hayden Fry. Iowa is not an easy gig but he has done a great job

Let me preface my comments by saying that yes, Iowa has regularly beaten Nebraska lately. Fuck, that hurts me to say.

Absolutely nobody is mocking Ferenz here (Well, at least I'm not).

We're mocking Iowa.

Lol. That's more fair than mocking Kirk. On the surface some would say it's nuts for Iowa to pay Kirk what they do and to have him under contact for so long but Iowa is not a blue blood and pre 1980 they had 2 decades of real ineptitude. Since then Iowa has had a grand total of 2 head coaches and has paid them exceedingly well. Iowa is a tough job. Tough to recruit to, no great tradition, the opposite of flashy and Iowa is boring as fuck ... Plus the weather sucks . If you get a coach who succeeds you lock him up because if you don't there are FARRR better jobs that will come calling. That's just reality. So yes when we go 7-5 it sucks to be paying 5 million a year to Ferentz but if we didn't someone else would and we would be 3-9 the next year . I'm old enough to remember that Iowa isn't a football school traditionally . It's wrestling then basketball and a distant third was football. That's changed because of Fry and Ferentz but we are one bad hire away from being right back there

Good thing he only needs 1 to tie Bob in National Championships at Oklahoma. Good lord, could you imagine how many Ferentz might have if he was the coach at Oklahoma?

Have a top 10 team once every 5 years, get a contract extension, and then fall asleep for the next few seasons.

Good job if you can get it.

For those who haven't seen him, here's a picture of Ferentz.

He's a con man to get kids to come to a middle-of-nowhere place like Iowa, but he's got a good heart. :yo:
