like i said.. look at the top pitches in the korean league.. temper your expectations.

If he's equivalent to Kang without the injury shortened year. I'll be floored. Massive boost.

It's bullpen help we need. And we haven't done that.

There is an opt out after 2 years... and he is probably 80% to take it... maybe 90%. He will only be 30 and will have been hitting in front of miggy for 2 years.. look at the numbers torii hunter put up hitting #2 in front of miggy in 2013. Upton was projected mlbtraderumors to get a deal close to 147 mil.

forgot about the opt out clause... Scary to think that he might do that and get even more money if he does well those 2 years.

You mean when Hunter's numbers didn't get any better from what they were during his last few years with with the Angels? Not a good example.

For starters, Hunter's OBP during his last 4 years with the Angels was .354, and declined to .327 in his years with the Tigers.

So if Hunter and Kinsler didn't really get any better in front of Miggy, what makes you so sure Upton will?

I would put a lot of money that he opts out. I also would bet he has some real good years with all the protection in that lineup. The Tigers also have a good history of getting the most out of hitters. Many say its because they learn from vmart. JD Martinez credits miggy and vmart for his development.

Don't see how anyone couldn't learn a thing or two with those guys.. Unless said player just doesn't care.

Look at the drop in SO Hunter had in 2013 vs 2012... Guys couldn't pitch around him because miggy was next up.

Miggy is natural talent.. I don't think many can learn much from him because they can't replicate what he does.

There was nothing reasonable to sign. Too much money into santana(ugh), Hughes(fuck) and Nolaso(FML).

We've got a solid enough rotation to build off last year if we go about it the right way. Meaning Gibson, Duffey and Mays join the two big contract vets and Nolasco just eats burritos in the dugout. Berrios should be called up immediately when someone struggles.

We've got some good arms at least.

Hunter also had a ridiculous babip in 2012 in LA... .389 There was no way in hell he was ever going to replicate that again I don't care if he was hitting in front of Jesus.

the twins should sign a guy like Mat Latos or Doug Fister on a 1 yr deal.

Who cares about strikeouts when he was making more outs?

Not to mention, you don't think the K's might've been affected by him leaving a pitching heavy division? In 2012 for instance, 3 of the top 7 pitching staffs in the AL were Hunter's division rivals in the AL West.

Hell no.

I'm hoping it's a mixture of Santana/Hughes as vets with the talent arms.

Duffey and Berrios have legit top line talent so my hope is its eventually them. And hopefully May gets back in even though we need BP help.

He was making more outs because his BABIP was .389 in 2012.. and it dropped .40 points... There was no way a late 30's Torii Hunter was going to have a BABIP like that ever again... it was the highest of his career.

Did you just mention the name Phil Hughes in a context referring to an ace? I just want to be clear on this before I start laughing.

No, I very clearly said I hope it's Duffey and Berrios when the big games come. It was going to be Duffey this past year if we did perform the final weekend.

I'm hoping Hughes and Santana stabilize things as vets through the season. We know what Gibson is. Shut down for a while, dog shit for a while.

The main purpose of BABIP is to predict future performance, correct? If all those seasons already happened (and hence nothing to predict/project), why are you so hung on that stat?

Fact is, Hunter's numbers didn't get any better with Cabrera behind him. Neither did Kinsler's. A notable of a guy leaving a crappy Padres lineup going to a better lineup (like Upton is) is Adrian Gonzalez, who didn't perform any better overall with the Red Sox/Dodgers.

I just don't think lineup protection has as big an effect as you might think.
