Okay, first a positive: I was happy to see AA go out and toss $82 million at a big free agent. He needs to do that this offseason and there were signs it was going to be another offseason where they did nothing.
But I'm a bit confused why that money was spent on Russell Martin? He doesn't really fill a big need on a team with plenty of big, glaring needs. Dioner Navarro was really good last year. I was kind of OK with him being the main catcher next year. Martin had a gaudy .402 OBP but this is a guy with a decade-long resume with many years where he was pretty bad. I guess the Jays are assuming last year would be what we'd get moving forward...not sure that's wise.
They need starting pitching. They need bullpen help. They have a few areas that they could upgrade in the lineup (replacing Melky's production and Lind), but catcher just didn't seem to be that pressing.
