Mets drop the opener 4-2

Trainer's Room:

Mets LHP Brooks Raley (elbow) is scheduled to see Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday. Meister is an elbow expert and the Texas Rangers' head team physician. Asked if Raley could miss the rest of the season, manager Carlos Mendoza said: “It's too early to tell.”
RHP Drew Smith (sore shoulder) will throw another inning Saturday on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse. He felt good physically after pitching one inning Wednesday for Syracuse. Smith is eligible to come off the injured list.
RHP Tylor Megill (shoulder sprain) will make another rehab start Sunday for Syracuse. The goal is five innings and 75-80 pitches.
RHP Kodai Senga (right shoulder capsule strain) threw a bullpen. “It's more about mechanics," Mendoza said. “Trying to get him back to feeling himself.”

On Deck:

Mets Rookie RHP Christian Scott (0-0, 1.35) makes his first start at Citi Field. The team's top pitching prospect is coming off an impressive major league debut last weekend at Tampa Bay, where he allowed one run with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
He'll be going Atlanta lefty Max Fried (2-1, 4.23 ERA). The 4:10 p.m. ET game will be broadcast on SNY and FS1.

Mets offense is in a bad funk....as they were nearly no hit and shutout.
JDM's solo HR in the 9th w/ 2 outs prevented more embarrassment.
Braves won it 4-1. Lone bright spot for NY was Christian Scott.

Trainer's Room:

Mets OF Brandon Nimmo (right intercostal irritation) left after the fourth inning. Nimmo was visited by a trainer during a second-inning at-bat and pointed to his right side before he took a practice swing.
LHP Brooks Raley (left elbow inflammation) is scheduled to visit Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday. The Mets expected Raley to miss the minimum amount of time when he was placed on the injured list April 21, but he has continued to feel discomfort in his elbow. Raley said all options, including surgery, are on the table heading into the visit.
Manager Carlos Mendoza said RHP Kodai Senga (right shoulder) is battling his mechanics and may need a couple more bullpen sessions before the Mets begin planning his rehab appearances.

On Deck:

NY will try to avoid being swept as the three-game series concludes Sunday night, when Mets RHP Luis Severino (2-2, 2.92) starts against Braves RHP Bryce Elder (1-1, 5.29 )

Mets win the finale 4-3 over Atlanta.
Nimmo hits walkoff 2 run HR.

Trainer's Room:

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (shoulder strain) pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings for Triple-A Syracuse against Lehigh Valley. He struck out six, walked none and threw 55 of 74 pitches for strikes. New York is expected to reinstate Megill from his minor league rehab assignment this week and decide whether to bring him back to the big leagues or option him to Syracuse.
RHP Drew Smith (shoulder soreness) pitched a hitless inning Saturday for Syracuse and could come off the injured list Monday or Tuesday.
LHP David Peterson (left hip surgery) is scheduled to make another rehab start Tuesday at Double-A Binghamton. He could be ready to come off the IL when eligible on May 27.

Up Next:

The Mets continue their home stand as they welcome the Phillies to town for a quick 2 game series.
Projected starters for tomorrow’s game are Lefties, Sean Manaea (2-1, 3.30 ERA) for the Mets, and Cristopher Sánchez (2-3, 3.23) for Philadelphia. First pitch is at 7:10 pm ET and will be broadcast on SNY and WCBS 880 AM.
