Former UT coach Augie Garrido dies at age 79
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Former University of Texas at Austin baseball coach Augie Garrido has died at the age of 79.
The university announced he passed away early Thursday morning. Garrido was the coach with the most wins in NCAA baseball history. He was also a five-time national champion, winning two of them while with the Longhorns.
Garrido had been in the hospital following a stroke, according to Longhorns baseball. During the March 13 Longhorns baseball game against Arkansas, a sign on a pole said "Augie, get well soon. Hook 'Em."
