Bengals DC Mike Zimmer has reportedly emerged as the favorite for the Vikings' head-coaching vacancy.

Marvin Lewis could be losing both his coordinators, as Jay Gruden was hired by the Redskins Thursday. The abrasive and fiery Zimmer's style would be in stark contrast to mild-mannered, player-friendly coach Leslie Frazier. It's a bit surprising the Vikings wouldn't favor an offensive mind, but Zimmer would make a fine choice. He's been the Bengals' defensive coordinator since 2008, consistently getting the most out of UDFA's and leading his unit to a No. 3 ranking this year despite season-ending injuries to Geno Atkins and Leon Hall.

Been waiting awhile to see Zimmer get a HC gig. Can't help but wonder if this is a lateral move for the Vikes though? They always had a good D under Frazier. I don't know how Zimmer helps their QB situation. Will be fun playing him in the Black and Blue.

often times the more important hire is the coordinator. If he hires a good OC then it doesn't matter if he is defensive Minded.

They are promoting Hue Jackson to OC (he was serving as their RB coach). That may actually be a gain.

The Zimmer and Gruden hirings I dont think will effect the Lions other than to take other teams out of the running for coaches we are interested in. Lions have said from the beginning they want someone with HC experience.
