ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Lions and franchise-tagged DE Ezekiel Ansah are not expected to reach a deal prior to Monday's deadline.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the same over the weekend. Although Ansah recorded 12 sacks last season, nine of those came in three games, and injuries continue to be a real concern. He is easily their biggest talent on the defensive line, but it makes sense for Detroit to take a wait-and-see approach. Playing under the tag, Ansah will earn $17.143 million this season, his age-39 campaign.

Smart move. No reason to. Can string him along 2 seasons and cut him loose. He is good but he seems to have no impact in big games. He gets 3 sacks a game in the ones that mean nothing.
