This reminds me of my favorite Ted Williams story. I don't remember the specifics, but I think it was during the "live ball era" of the 90's. A reporter talked about the prolific hitting stats in baseball "today" with Williams and then asked him what average he thought he would hit for if he played today:
Williams answered: 'probably about .280'
The reporter says: '.280, that's it???'...to which Williams responds: 'yeah, I'm 75 years old'

And he probably could have too. IMO the best pure hitter in baseball history
