Well according to your link his numbers would look like this.

His initial deal called for him to make $6 million in 2014 and he would have counted more than $7 million against the salary cap. Miller's 2014 compensation will go down to $3 million with incentives making it possible to earn as much as $4 million.

Kind of figured that was gonna happen, still good to hear with him being a great blocking TE. More cap room for us.

Love it! Save money and keep a valuable member of the team as well. Also what this does is it essentially gives us another draft pick since we no longer have to pursue a tight end

On another note though...I can't wait to see Luke Willson blossom next year. I have a feeling he is going to be lethal in the passing game. Just throwing it out there

Terrific news. I had been saying all along that I really didn't want to see Zach Miller cut, and restructuring his contract will ensure his spot on our roster.

Zach is a top 3 blocking TE in the NFL (partly because Seattle forced him to work on those skills). Either way great move. Zach + Wilson + McCoy is PLENTY of depth. Even if Miller goes down McCoy can sub in for the blocking and Wilson played great last year anyway.

Shaving this cap will hopefully give us some cash to sign Allen. If not whatever. Extend the trio (Sherman/Thomas/Wilson) and go for the draft.

Yes, good news indeed. I like it much better then plan B, which seemed to be to sign Finley. Seahawks look set at TE now, with Miller, Wilson, and McCoy.

I wonder if we would have been able to afford Tate had Miller restructured earlier in the off season

Doesn't matter. Tate is being paid over 6 mil a year by the Lions which I think was a massive overpay. It works for the Lions because they were desperate for someone with NFL experience to take the pressure off of Megatron. But the Seahawks are not that desperate given we got Harvin, Baldwin, and Kearse set for 2014. They may still take a WR project in the draft as well.

But this restructure deal was needed because it simply cleans up millions to help commit to the looming signings of Thomas, Sherman, and Wilson which are going to command big money. It right sizes Millers pay for what he contributes and keeps him on the team for 2014.

Agreed. Remember we are essentially replacing Tate with Harvin who didnt play hardly at all. Couple that with a year of experience for Baldwin, Kearse and likely adding a draft pick, I think the receiving core will actually be better next year. Ill miss Tate but both sides benefited from moving in a different direction.

I am glad this happened. We now have roughly $20M in cap space and get to keep Zack.

Watched zach back in high school, he played at desert vista, when I first moved out to Arizona. I always liked the kid. It sucks to have spent your first few years in football purgatory...

This is the one guy I didnt really want to let go of.

Makes me feel more comfortable not drafting a TE in the first round.
