Regardless of how likely it is or not or what would happen with the rest of the season. State and explain your preference.

So I do not really understand the arguments for not expanding. The most common thing said against expansion is that there aren't more than 4 teams that are needed to determine the best... but this is silly reasoning in my opinion and ultimately faulty logic specifically from a fans perspective. If you can agree that the two best teams would be in the 4, then they would be in the 8 and/or 16 as well. If they are the best, they will win and prove it. If they lose... then they were clearly not the best. You can only be the best at the given time you are playing, if not... then why bother at all? Why not simply put Bama and Clemson in each year going forward given that they have been the best most consistently and recently. You don't do that, because things change and any team can win on any given Saturday. You play to know.

People may say things like... What if Team H beats Team A when we know Team A is better. Well then I would say that Team A was not the best and clearly not better at the time they played and that is what matters Why would I care if you were better a week ago or 2 weeks from now, you need to be better AT THE TIME you are playing. Every team is only as good as they are when they are playing. If team H beat you that 1 out of 10 time, that is all that is needed, just like throughout the regular season.... as the saying goes 'Any given Saturday'.

I could get behind that. I would also get rid of the committee and go back to the BCS rankings.

I picked 16. I think that is the best number as it allows for the most competitive format that incorporates the vast majority of likely/possible upsets. I like the idea of having the 10 conference champions and 6 at larges.

For perspective, 2019 would have featured these teams...

P5
ACC: Clemson 14-1
B12: Oklahoma 12-2
B1G: Ohio St 13-1
PAC: Oregon 12-2
SEC: LSU 15-0

G5
AAC: Memphis 12-2
CUSA: Florida Atlantic 11-3
MAC: Miami Ohio 8-6
MWC: Boise St 12-2
SunBelt: Appalachian St 13-1

Aside from the lone exception of Miami Ohio, that looks like a sweet list. Then of course you could have added... Georgia 12-2, Bama/Florida 11-2, Wisconsin 10-4, Notre Dame 11-2, Utah 11-3, and Baylor 11-3 as the at larges. All of those are the FINAL records, not what they would have been prior to being in.

Idk. That looks like an awesome line up of potential football games to me. And dependent on the seeding, there could be some real surprises.

For some reason I can't post the picture, below is as good as I could get it currently and I can't access twitter... on the work computer right now. Danny Kanell showing what a 16 team playoff would look like currently.

8 team playoff. I propose an open schedule the last week of the season. It has been proven it can be done and everyone could have deals in place for a game on short notice. Call it wild card week. As far as the top 8 are concerned the no 8 team picks first and they get to challenge anyone they want in the top 4, on the higher ranked teams field of course. Then 7 gets to challenge a top 4 and so on. Tell me that wouldn’t be a fun week.

16 team playoffs. I wouldnt even mind a 32 team that much i just understand the arguement that an unranked team shouldnt be in the playoffs.

For a 32 team playoff, I would recommend no CCGs and having division winners get an auto bid for the 10 conferences. Then 12 at larges lol. Of course the Big 12 would need to pick up two teams... I recommend Nebraska for one lol.

I prefer the 8 teamer but will admit while I used to think it was a must, I can understand keeping it at 4.

4 is right.

Most years we only need 2.

Rematches in playoffs are pathetic. An 8 team playoff will guarantee such an atrocity.

P5 need to separate from the rest. Champs from 4 of 5. Do we really want to see Bama beat Coastal Carolina by 40?

1. we reduce division 1 to 64 teams. No conferences. Everyone plays 12 games
2. We do a preseason ranking of all teams
3. We then randomly take one team from each group 1-16, 17-32, 33-48, 49-64. This will make 16 groups of 4.
4. These groups play a round robin giving each team 3 games. (Think World Cup)
5. The top 2 teams move on to another 4 team group to keep competing for the championship. The bottom 2 teams move on to continue to play with another 4 team group of losers.

Example: The preseason rankings are done and groups have been drawn.
#5 Ohio state, #30 Boston college, #35 Northwestern, #50 Cal are in a group. Results:
OSU 3-0
Cal 2-1
NW1-2
BC 0-3
OSU and Cal move on to a higher group but not together. (We don’t want them playing again unless they are at the very end with final 4 teams)
At this point we have 8 groups in winners bracket and 8 groups in losers bracket.
We repeat this.....
The winners group is now 4 groups of 4 teams(16 total)left and all teams have played 6 games
We repeat. The winners group is now 2 groups of 4 teams(8total) and have played 9 games.
We repeat. The winners group is now reduced to 1 group of 4 teams and have played 12 games at this point. We now are in a 4 team playoff.
The lower groups have been playing this whole time as well and all teams have played 12 games

We are never going back to a 2 team format, so that’s out. 16 or more team formats are ridiculous. A 16 seed has no earthly chance of winning it, so there’s no reason to include 2 or 3 loss teams. That aside, that is too damn many games for the players, too much travel and expense for both the fans and the teams, on short notice and during the holiday season. Just to add another tier or two of cannon fodder games. Nope.

That leaves us with 4 or 8. My preference is 4, though I suspect 8 is inevitable. I think the players already play enough games, and every extra we tack onto the end of an already grueling season gives one more opportunity for players to be injured, right on the eve of the most important job interview many of them will ever have. We’ve already reached a point where most fans who actually go to games can’t go to all of the ones we have now, much less any new ones. As far as I’m concerned, if you can’t make the top 4, by whatever method they choose to select them, tough.

I like the G5 breaking off into their own deal. The P5 has a 4 or 8 team playoff and same for G5. Tons of Championship football.

This year only I'd like to see a group of 16, just because of the lack of OOC and games in total. Normal years I like the four team format.
