I've only seen the Martian and wasn't a huge fan. I'm hopeful that Starwars and Hateful 8 live up to the hype.

I definitely felt like the Martian had an agenda. I heard all these people raving about it but when I finally saw it, I thought it was just okay.

Sicario on the other hand is one of those films that had everything, bad ass characters, a relevant topic, and it's not afraid to show how gritty the drug trade really in Mexico as well as here in America. It highlights how blurry the line between right and wrong is, which is always something I find very interesting.

Have not seen Star Wars, Revenant, or Hateful 8, so can't say.

The 3 Movies I liked the best that I saw were:
1) The Martian
2) Black Mass
3) Bridge of Spies

The Martian gets my vote, but the other 2 were just as good in their own right.

Only saw two on the list, Mad Max: Fury Road which really blew chunks and The Martian which I enjoyed very much.

Out of those few I have seen, the only one that stood out was Ex Machina. I loved that movie.

I have only seen Star Wars, Mad Max and Hateful Eight. Loved all three. I think only Max and Eight are Oscar-worthy, though, but I only expect Eight to actually be nominated.

I liked SW becaused it added to a major cultural phenomenon in a very positive way.

I liked MM because it a visual orgasm and a 2-hour roller-coaster.

I liked Eight because it is a call back to early QT and it is completely engrossing.

I don't want to choose between them, but with a gun to my head, I think I would pick Hateful Eight.

Spotlight will probably be what wins the award.

Yeah, Oscar voters usually go for the films with the most "importance".

Importance: Bridge of Spies, Spotlight
Purely fun: Star Wars, Mad Max, Ex Machina, the Martian
Little of both: Sicario

I have not seen the Big Short, Hateful 8, Carol, Room or Brooklyn. Revenant is technically a 2016 film so I wasn't sure whether or not to consider it. Critics and pirates did get to see it in 2015 but moviegoers have to wait until shortly after 2016.

Revenant should be included. Just like Hateful Eight it has a wide release on January 8th. But is in select theaters now so it is eligible for awards season.

I haven't seen spotlight but based on everything I've heard. I'd be surprised if it didn't win.

Mad Max. I've never walked out of a movie so ready to see it again. It was awesome to watch throughout the entire film.

I'm curious to know what 'agenda' you saw in The Martian: Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but I didn't notice any. :noidea:

I rather liked it.

Didn't want to post spoilers.

Everyone survives... in real life the whole crew probably would have died. The way Matt Damon said stuff like "science the shit outta this" just seemed cheesy and a way for NASA to get kids interested in space exploration again. I don't think it was any coincidence that all this news about Mars happened to come out after the movie did. I just felt like the movie was more of a promotion for NASA than an actual film. That's just my personal opinion.

I haven't seen the movie or read the book but it was based on a book. So maybe they survived mostly for the authors story telling decision?

I think I've only been to the movie theater 4 times this year: Star Wars (2x), Avengers 2 and Ant-Man. There has been way too much TV to watch this year. Movies theaters just seem like a rip off. I have been meaning to watch Ex Machina, though.

I intend to see...

Ex Machina
Creed
Sicario
The Martian

And probably...

Bridge of Spies
Straight Outta Compton
The Big Short

None of these interest me as much as the movies I have already seen though.

Just saw Martian and Creed.

My vote for Hateful Eight stands.
