Mine is Sicario.
I've only seen the Martian and wasn't a huge fan. I'm hopeful that Starwars and Hateful 8 live up to the hype.
Spotlight will probably be what wins the award.
Yeah, Oscar voters usually go for the films with the most "importance".
Importance: Bridge of Spies, Spotlight
Purely fun: Star Wars, Mad Max, Ex Machina, the Martian
Little of both: Sicario
I have not seen the Big Short, Hateful 8, Carol, Room or Brooklyn. Revenant is technically a 2016 film so I wasn't sure whether or not to consider it. Critics and pirates did get to see it in 2015 but moviegoers have to wait until shortly after 2016.
I definitely felt like the Martian had an agenda. I heard all these people raving about it but when I finally saw it, I thought it was just okay.
I'm curious to know what 'agenda' you saw in The Martian: Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but I didn't notice any.
I rather liked it.

Didn't want to post spoilers.
Everyone survives... in real life the whole crew probably would have died. The way Matt Damon said stuff like "science the shit outta this" just seemed cheesy and a way for NASA to get kids interested in space exploration again. I don't think it was any coincidence that all this news about Mars happened to come out after the movie did. I just felt like the movie was more of a promotion for NASA than an actual film. That's just my personal opinion.
