I think there are 10 other teams that are only a game out as well.

But, with that being said, this team is playing pretty good baseball right now and if they can get their pitchers back I think they they have a good shot at being in the mix come Sept... which is all I ask for.

As for making deadline moves. The last time the Mariners went all out to get one of the better players available at the deadline was 1995 when they picked up Benes. One of the reasons why Lou Piniella left was because of the crap the Mariner would bring in at the deadline. I think Al Martin was the last straw for Sweeet Lou.

It's been a streaky season so far and I get the feeling that we're gonna be going back and forth between very cautious optimism and complete disgust quite a few times this year if the team continues to be streaky on the field.

I think that's what ended up driving Pat Gillick out of Seattle as well. Everyone knows from 2000-2003 he was handcuffed by Lincoln and Armstrong. All he did was go to Philly and take the losingest franchise in baseball history to back to back World Series, winning one of them.

Yes, and if the M's had had at least a winning record more than twice in the last decade, this thread probably wouldn't exist. The fact is that the Mariners are the hottest team in the league right now and given how few opportunities we've had in recent years to say that at any point during the season, people are more excited about it than they would be if the M's had done more winning lately.
