He is definitely not a HOF player. But his contributions to the league were immeasurable (just by playing). Had the Chinese ever heard of the NBA before Yao? The NBA probably doubled their market just by him playing.

I agree with this as he brought basketballs popularity up in China.

I just don't see Yao Ming making it into the hall of fame in the near future without any championships, but he was a good player
