It doesn't hurt, but with the playoffs set up the way they are it's not enough of an advantage for other teams fans to think it's pointless to even watch. They made the playoffs a lot but once they got there they are 2 for 21. Also in those 25 years another team in their division won 4 world series. (granted the Red Sox had some big payrolls too)

$$ allows you to not only add pieces to your roster, but it also allows you KEEP your own assets from going elsewhere (arguably more important).

But instead of pointing a finger at the Spanks or doggies, and saying they are breaking the game with how much they are spending, fans/writers should point a finger at the A’s and Pirates and say how THEY are breaking the game with how THEY are spending.

The Padres are showing that ANY team can step up and play with the big boys if they really wanted to. most teams just decide that they don’t want to. That’s why I think a salary FLOOR is much more important than a salary cap.

Aaron Judge 40 mil
Gerrit Cole 36 mil
Giancarlo Stanton 32 mil
Carlos Rodon.....27 mil
Josh Donaldson 21 mil
Anthony Rizzo..20 mil

This total, of six Yankee players 2023 salaries, is more team salary (so far) than that of 25 MLB teams.

There are 16 teams in MLB, that don't average 30,000 fans a game.
There are 10 Teams in MLB that don't average 20,000 fans attendance ,in a game.
Three teams don't even average 15,000 fans a game..
all teams are not created EQUAL.........money wise

Also, if you just look at the top 6 salaries of a team, of course you will see the vast bulk of that teams salary obligations. If you only get about 20% of a team’s salary obligation when looking at the top 6 players, you have a horribly constructed team.

You're making the lame point that's there's enough good talent in MLB to have 30 really good teams NO MATTER THE MONEY.........That's a pathetic logic.
You could easily make case there's only enough good starting pitching to make 10 to 15 teams..........maybe

???

Where did I ever make that point?

Do you want all 30 teams to be equal every season?

That's a pretty top heavy list, and might have made more sense about 10 years ago. In my reality the Yankees haven't won jack shit in 14 years. Not even an AL pennant.

Maybe they need to go back to leading the world in payroll.

right... the problem with being a spender is that fans expectations are higher... its a win or bust... so... its not like it is easier to be a fan of a team that spends... the only difference is that teams that spend get more fans to come to games(GENERALLY SPEAKING), because fans come to see stars NOT scrubs!!!

yeah sometimes people get the supply and the demand mixed up. You sign a couple interesting free agents and win some games in April and your attendance numbers will look a lot better- except for maybe Tampa.

I don’t mean to talk 100% simplified math. New York and Tampa are different markets. The Rays, realistically, can’t play the same game as the Spanks. And they don’t. And the Rays are an extremely successful franchise (baseball-wise - I have no idea if they are profitable).

But the Cubs and White Sox are in the same market. So are the Mutts and Spanks. And the Giants and A’s. And the dogs and Angels. All those pairings have big differences in income and business philosophies. That tells me that market isn’t the ONLY factor. And the fact that the Padres are absolutely swinging with the big boys even though they are in one of the smaller MLB markets.

Does money matter? Absolutely. But i believe just about any team has the ability to at least get a seat at the adult table, even if they can’t sit at the head.

They Rays could play the Yankees game in terms of spending. They just need the CEO of the HSN to buy them, they are great at stealing money from old people.

Teams with big payrolls tend to get into the dance more often.........Yankees 21 out of the last 25.
The Dodgers have made the playoffs in 10 consecutive seasons. (they have had the top payroll in 6 of those seasons)
Tampa is the freak show............Their team payroll in 2023 is 44 mil
Baltimore.......48 mil
Cleveland.....60 mil
Seattle..........110 mil
The Astros are at 162 mil.......they are 12th
and the Oakland Athletics couldn't afford a season ticket luxury box at Yankee Stadium
and the stupid award goes to the Los Angeles Angels............172 mil for this season

The top 7 team salaries of this season made it into last season's playoffs...........

Your point?

Teams essentially CHOOSE what their payroll will be, so all teams are essentially able to compete if they choose to. Many teams simply choose not to pay.

In the last 10 seasons........

The Dodgers, were number one in opening day team salary. (around 208 mil average per season)
They made the post season 10 out of 10 seasons.
Won their division 9 out of 10 times.
Were in the World Series 3 times.
Won the World Series once.
Had a Regular Season .613 Winning Percentage.

The Yankees were number two in opening day team salaries. (around 198 mil average per season).
They made the post season 7 out of 10 seasons.
Were in the ALCS 3 times.
Had a Regular Season .565 Winning Percentage.

Now why would anyone think, spending in MLB, matters?.............:pound:
It isn't necessarily winning the World Series every year, but getting into the dance, matters.
And money gives these teams a chance........every year, to have a major edge, in the competitive (im)balance.
And now, the Phillies, the Padres, and the Mets have joined the dance.
